"Extreme comfort with a sense of economy."

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Upon delivery headlamp bulb connector was loose, water pump was leaking, turn signal lamp out, hesitation when accelerating from stop.

General comments?

I purchased a 2001 S60 2.4 Base engine from a midwest dealership on E-Bay. I won the auction at $12,000 (U.S.) and considered the price to be excellent since most dealers were charging $15,000 - $17,000 retail for a similar car. The car came equiped with moonroof, heated leather seats, 15-inch wheels (ugh) with some worn tires. This is an interesting car. Being the non-turbocharged engine, I was worried that the car would be quite slow. It is very lazy off the line, but has more than adequate highway cruising abilities and can pass other without too much effort. I immediately traded out the 15 inch wheels for 17 inch alloys with new, wider tires. There was a vast improvement in handling. The purpose of this car was to have a daily driver that would be economical, comfortable, safe, and still carry some style along. This car is hands down, the most comfortable vehicle I have owned. Ergonomics are excellent and the front seats will get you across long distances without any distress (I'm 6 feet 2 inches and tall in the saddle.)

The stock stereo is excellent and the one-tough power windows and moonroof operate flawlessly. This is not a fast car on the low end, but it will cruise quite nicely with a satisfying hum. My other vehicle is a Mercedes CLK55 AMG and while there is no comparison as far as performance goes, I often find myself taking the Volvo simply because of its comfortable, relaxing manners. I am fortunate to have a unique color, Maya-Gold, and am often asked about the car at gas stops. The dealership service has been exceptional. The car needed a new water pump (this was stated from the onset from the seller) and the service was not cheap. However, the dealer set an appointment, kept it, gave me a loaner car (s40), and had the repair done the next day. Cost of repair was $569. I have yet to have any other problem arise since (5k miles later). The car has mainted 26 miles per gallon, mostly city driving! Expecting somewhat of a dressed-up economy car, this vehicle has been growing on me quite strongly. My Mercedes is being a bit neglected. I look forward to rounding the 100,000 mark within the next few years. If you see an S60 in good shape, and want an extremely comfortable daily driver, I would highly suggest this car.

I purchased a 2001 S60 2.4t Volvo in Nov. of 2000. At first I loved the car, it was smooth, quiet and nice looking. As time went on, I realized that the back seat was very small, the transmission had continuous problems and we had to replace the rotors every 20,000 miles. Under warranty, these repairs were not an issue, but Volvo wanted an additional $2600+ for an extended warranty which would not cover all of the problems such as the rotors. I am finding that at a little over 62k miles, I cannot afford to fix all of the little things that keep coming along. Now they want $160 for a motor mount, $120 to check why the emissions service light has come on, a week after our $648 tune up.

My suggestion is to sell your Volvo once the original warranty is up.

2001 S60 2.0T, owned from new, 78,000 miles up and not a single non-consumable part has needed changing, and not a single thing has gone wrong. Mine has a manual transmission, however (I absolutely loathe automatics!)

I have an S60 2.0 T SE. I don't think anyone I know could fault the comfort factor - I drive long distances (300 miles plus) at least twice a month and this car is so comfortable to do it in. As to performance, I consider it better than my previous Peugeot 406 and Volkswagen Passat. Being your average Joe, and no car expert, I find it a bit sluggish through the low gears, but get it on the motorway and it performs with ease. Its done 67k now with no problems whatsoever - however servicing is much pricier than my previous cars.

I sold my 2001 BMW 535i to purchase a Volvo S60 AWD. Although the car seems slower than the bimmer it feels a lot more safe and controlable. Since I purchased the car in 2004 nothing major has gone wrong, its up to 62 000 kms and has only had the electronic throttle replaced (under warranty). It attracts a lot of looks at service stations or at the lights, As in Australia they are not that common its nice to have something people find unusual.

I purchased an AWD S-60 in September of 2004. The car ran well except that now I have a reoccurring message: fuel gas cover loose; check engine. That error message has sent me back for service four times in the last four months. I am told it is an emission problem and am quite concerned. Is this repairable or not? Is it standard over the car model? Is it just a dealer problem?

On October 3, 2005 I purchased a 2001 Volvo S60 with 42k miles for $15k. This was the best choice I have ever made.

My original choice was to purchase a 2006 BMW 5 Series, but as I strolled around checking out my options, I completely fell in love with this black beauty. It has to be the most comfortable car I have ever been in; and believe me, I've driven just about anything.

People say it's slow, but when you step on that accelerator, this baby flies! I've taken her to Tampa, the Keys and all over Miami, and the best part is that she's awesome on gas. I have noticed that just about everyone and their mother breaks their neck (it's just a saying) when I pull up to a red light, gas station, valet, etc.

I am now hooking this bad boy up with 2 12's, black 19's with a chrome lip, and Infinity G35 HID's. I know it sounds a bit "ghetto", but believe me, I'm one of the preppiest girls and with all the things I'm putting on my car, it's going to look HOT and is definitely going to be one of the hottest cars in Miami.

I have just picked up an immaculate 2001 S60 2.0T S manual in Maya Gold for the token sum of UKP2500. The car has done 125,000 miles, but came with a full Volvo main dealer service history, a new MOT (annual British government roadworthiness check), and has just had new tyres, a new clutch and a new alternator fitted. It drives like new - not a single squeak from the interior, no freeplay in the gearchange mechanism or steering, and the engine sounds silky smooth and performs well. As long as you're prepared to use the revs, it's plenty quick enough for a daily driver. It will crack 0-60 in just over 8 seconds, pull all the way to 140 mph, and cruise at 80-90 mph with lots in reserve. Oh, and if you drive it sensibly, it will return 32 mpg.

Nobody that's been in the car can believe it has done over 100k. It doesn't feel tired in the slightest.

A mechanic friend has just serviced it and given it a thorough check over, and after 20 minutes on the ramps, all he's reported is front brake pads that are coming to the end of their life.

I can't believe people pay twice as much for a VW or Audi. Cars just don't come better built or engineered than this unless you spend crazy money.
