Was probably abused before you got it... most of the things you list are maintenance and was probably never changed by the former owner.

Not only the abuse part, but also it sounds like your mechanic is just throwing parts on the car to charge you money and isn't getting to the root of the actual problem. And you've put on several sets of plugs, wires, sensors, I'll bet the parts he's using aren't good parts.

I would seriously consider finding a new mechanic. If you're taking a car with over 100,000 miles to the GM dealer, you're asking to be ripped off. To find a local mechanic you can trust, ask your friends and family and get a good recommendation, it'll be well worth it.

The car must've been abused before you got it, either that or your mechanic is replacing parts that don't need replacing.

It is a Classic G.M.C. product.

I have a 1996 Oldsmobile Ciera myself. And when I bought the car the owner told me that it would just shut off at times. In order for the car to be restarted, you have to erase the code. So I went out and bought a code reader. I have never had to use it until this morning. The code that it gave me was for a Mass Air Flow Sensor, so I am going to have it replaced. However, I would suggest that you go to Auto Zone and get one of these code readers. They have one that is only $60.00, and it will come in handy and NOT keep you stranded. I am hoping that once the Mass Air Flow Sensor is replaced all will be well, if not, then its on to the next part. Overall, my car just reached 100,000 miles and this is the ONLY problem that I have ever had with it. So I really can't complain.
