Had to replace the radiator and muffler, that was all at about 250,000 kms. Regular maintaince like: oil changes, coolant flush, tune-up, replace spark plugs, fuel filter, clean out throttle body, and MAP sensor. seats are kinda tearing a little bit. dimmer switch broke, turn signal broke replaced with a used one that costed 20 bucks, it was easy to fix had to pry out broken signal with a screw driver, and stick the new on in.
My 1991 is fully loaded with power windows, door locks, trunk, spoiler, 15 in rims, AC, tilt. and it's a very nice red exterior not chips or sctatches and it looks like new, just a little rust by the wheels, but very unoticable. it has a black interior, which I've heared is a rare colour. Very nice motor quite powerful, good gas mileage, nice ride, with great stock handling, quite roomy inside not like other sport cars like the cavalier. engine sounds nice when you slam on the gas. nice car and you don't see too many of them on the road now a days.
Since when is a Cavalier considered a sports car?
Just a update to the review I posted. It is now seven months later and the car is still running smoothly! Engine and transmission are still operating perfect, and I must say that I really worked the car hard and abused it sometimes, but I still took care if it by changing the oil every 5000 kms. It now has 273,000 kms on it. The only repairs made to it since last review was the radiator went, so for a brand new one it costed about 400.00 and it included parts and labour. The water pump also started to fail at around 260000 kms, when I brought it in the shop they said it would cost 60 bucks for a rebuilt one and it also needed a new belt and belt tensioner it costed about 260 bucks for repairs to it. Other than that that's all the major parts that have failed. I also got into a little accident I side swiped the front driver side fender on a 2001 Pontiac Montana. The only damages to my car was the passenger side fender scratched and the mirror went out of alinment. But the Montana got it much worse where the whole fender was completely damaged and the turn signal was left hanging on its wires. I tell you vehicles made now a days there designed to crumble on impact.
I have two Chevy Beretta GT's... a 1991 and a 1988. The 1991 has been the best and most reliable car I have ever purchased.
The only complaint about the 1991 is that I was sitting in a turning lane, and got hit head on by another car going about 50 mph. I have pictures!!! I was okay, the driver side was crushed and buckled up, but my air bags DID NOT deploy!!! I have since then put another front end on it from one Beretta and another hood from another Beretta. Yes, it is ugly, but it still runs to this day and has been well maintained as far as mechanics and repairs.
I have recently bought a 1988 Chevy Beretta GT... the a/c has now quit blowing cold, my cruise control doesn't work, and now my head lights are stuck on BRIGHT!!! This one doesn't seem to get the gas mileage like the 1991 either. However, I am interested in restoring my 1991 GT and still consider these vehicles worth the buy!!! I have owned several newer SuV's and cars, one of them being a 2004, while owning my Beretta's...!!! I had more trouble with the other cars than my two Beretta's combined!!!
So, for all you Chevy Beretta owner's...congrats on owning one of the better made cars!!!
You know what would have made these cars a lot better. If they came with the 3.4 liter twin cam V6 with 210 HP. You know the ones that are in the Z34 and GTP. Theres only one Beretta that has that moter, but with 220 Hp. Its the offical Indy Pace car. I read it on beretta.net.
I Have A 1991 Chevy Beretta Gt it needs a new heater core, alternator, tires, and a rear axle besides that its awsome I'm only 14 but I put my Soul into that thing I put in an alpine subwoofer and amp, 3 SPL 6x9 3way speakers, and 2 Audiobahn 4x6 speakers and a pioneer DEH-16 Head Unit.
Just another update on the review I posted awhile back, its now November 2006. And I still drive this car! it has 315,000 Kms on it and its still running great. Only things I had to replace were basic maintenance like Alternator, tires, oil changes, thermostat, brakes, tune-up, battery, getting ready for winter season (maintenance is inexpensive). It's a very reliable car, it gets me from point A to B, and its great for students, gas mileage is great only 40 bucks to fill it up and last for 2.5 weeks. I'm happy with the outcome from my car and for being 15 year old vehicle.
I also have a 1992 beretta gt, 320K and it now makes a ticking noise when I start the engine and stays until I shut the engine off. other than that the car is a beauty. I would buy another one any day.
I own a 92' Beretta, this is the second car i owned but i see the problems my family is having with there new vechicles my car has 140,000 miles on it and i have had it for almost 2 years and the only things that I have had to replace besides the normal maintenance on it, is the brakes, shocks, and the alternator is starting to go. I talk about selling it, but I am afraid to because I haven't had any problems with it. Except that I am looking for a new rim for it because I slid into a crib. If anyone has any ideas where to get a desecent priced rim let me know.
To the guy 2 posts above, that may just be the a/c. Does your car have an ac installed?
