2001 Fiat Punto HGT from UK and Ireland - Comments

"Absolute pocket rocket that embarrasses most other cars in its class!"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Nothing, I've only had it 3 days.

General comments?

This car is a cut above the rest.

It handles like a go-cart and leaves many other cars for dust. The look on drivers in more powerful cars is priceless.

Being a 1.8 the fuel economy isn't the greatest as you are encouraged to drive the car, which means red lining it at 7000rpm, although you are guaranteed to have a smile on your face at that point.

I had a Vauxhall Astra 1.4 beforehand and the difference handling and power wise is something else.

The interior is cool with sat nav and 5 disc changer, not to mention the 100w subwoofer in the boot as standard. The seats are supportive and the toys on the car such as air con, ABS, and traction control are a nice touch.

If anybody wants an adrenaline rush and a permanent smile on their face while driving, buy one!!

You won't be disappointed.

Punto is 8.4. if you got higher your timing gear is inaccurate, these cars aren't no faster than any other 1.8.

Hgt was tested with two passangers a full tank of fuel plus a 40kg ballast in the boot, and still it hit 62mph in the low 8sec mark, not 60mph like other cars at the time were tested too.

The car gives upwards of 130bhp per tonne with plenty of in gear torque, and doesn't run out of breath after 60mph like others in its class. Low 7sec to 60mph is no problem whatsoever with this car, with just the driver and without the weighted ballast in the boot.

Its also its in insurance group 15, and shouldn't be confused with the sporting model.

I myself have a 106gti, and find the performance of my car NO quicker than my mates Punto Hgt.

Yes, that's because 106 gti's are slow as well, it's a VTS made by Peugeot.

If you know how to drive the 1.8 Punto HGT properly and only change gear when it's above 6k in 1st, 2nd and 3rd then a 0-60 time of 6.5 to 7.5 seconds is quite easy to do. Better off paying a few more grand more something with more useable power and long term sellability though, like a seat cupra turbo or clio 172.

Try cleaning the air filter or replacing it, if that doesn't work change the plugs.
