"A winner, but purposely ruined"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Everything and anything. It's highly recommended to not buy it since it was poorly thought out and ill conceived, and whoever allowed such a beautiful, comfortable car to be cursed from the outset must be held responsible. Please come forward, and explain.

General comments?

We all have our favorite cars, but this one coasted at 110 MPH for a very long distance, and only a porsche or a jaguar can accomplish such a feat bearing in mind that it was so poorly thought out from the outset and that the "creators" must be held liable. Please come forward, and explain.

Mmmmmm... I can really see Audi coming forward and apologising for a car they made more than 30 years ago.

We had a new 100. We had it for a year. I think it was at the shop more than we drove it. We bought a Volvo to replace it.

What a poor review. What has gone wrong with this 32 year old car... everything... When did you purchase the car? I don't know... What motor and trasmission has the car? I don't know... International flight? I don't know... But I do know it is a very bad car and I am going to sue Audi!!!

This review is the product of a seriously deranged individual. Didn't know that they had computers for the patients in psychiatric hospitals.

I own a 1974 Audi 100 LS Automatic with 91,000 miles on it. Everything works on this car except the passenger seat adjustment handle. Since that is the only problem after 31 years (other than routine maintenance), I CANNOT COMPLAIN ABOUT THE VEHICLE! My wife and I go out for a ride every week in this car (but not in the winter these days as we wish to keep this rare car) and it always gets favourable looks, more so than all the plastic junk on the road these days. I have no idea why you people are giving poor reviews on this vehicle!!! An Audi dealership was so impressed with my 74 that they want me to attend their parties, etc.

Agreed.

The reviewer is nuts.

The last comment just shows that if you don't use a car it will last longer.

Yeah, 91,000 miles in 31 years?

That's less than 3,000 miles each year, so it should last.

I drive 30,000 miles per year. So if I had used that car all that time, it would have covered 930,000 miles.

That's a lot of miles.

If the car did 25 mpg that would be 37,200 gallons of gas.

That's a lot of gas.

And if gas cost..zzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

I was so confused I went out and personally checked out this car (100LS) 1973. At first glance it seemed well thought out until we tried starting it up. Sounded great, but mucho smoke and obvious carelessness in regards to engine design. It appeared more experimental then dependable. Even newer audis are scary compared to "well though out" engine design, honda that is. One touch-up of repair demanded another repair, and another... and another. No way. This car was dangerous when we tried the seat belt out and the coil sprang out and nearly injured us! And we hadn't even DRIVEN it yet! A nice ride later, we could not ignore the halloween noises that would not go away from the engine. Did I mention the smell? No, not the car. Your e-mails propping up such a waste of time. I will NEVER drive an audi. HONDA RULES!!!

Did they release the patient that created this car? He needs to go back, and possibly change his medication....meanwhile he can also change his car. To a honda. For the sane driver.

I've heard people speak badly about this car. Why, I say? Is it because there are none on the road? Or because parts are impossible to find, and when "found" don't repair the problem for long? Or maybe the handle that opens the hood is designed for the driver to reach so far back only "E.T." with his extra elongated finger can reach it?...has it broken off yet? Oh. But, I say, it will! Or maybe... or maybe...zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

I own An Audi 100 LS. It was passed down in my family to me and I think that it is the best car on the road. I even gave up an Elcamino for it. I don't think you should insult a beautiful car like this until you actually drive one. Everybody I know loves my car one of them wanted to give me his Porsche 914 for it, but I think the Audi is nicer.

I bought an LS audi from a bloke that had it sitting in a paddock for 2 years... new battery and petrol down the carbi, she went no worries... Then proceeeded to drive it 1500kms non stop back to Sydney (Australia). Did not use a drop of oil or water the whole trip... unfortunatly it has a smashed windsreen from sitting in the paddock during a hail storm. Parts for these cars are rare as hens teeth down under..

Are you sure you didn't steal it? And who perposely ruined it? You or Audi? And finnaly why did the headline call it a winner?

Just commenting on the basic engine design; Those older style inline 4 cylinder engines were practically bulletproof. Otherwise they wouldn't have kept the same basic layout up until 1993.

Very rarely do you hear about a cracked block or any such thing on those motors- reason? the block was the same as the diesel motors. Casting was identical, and interchangeable. I can't 100% verify from the motor I saw, that it is the exact same motor, but it looked very similar. I will say that from 82 on, they were unstoppable.
