"Attractive looks, but very problematic"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Extremely poor quality.

The mileage of the car was more than 100km when I first received the car.

Few light bulbs were fused when the car was less than one month old.

Car got overheated at one month old cause radiator fan not functioning.

Water leaking into the car.

The whole alarm system was faulty and eventually had to be replaced.

The car couldn't start due to defective car battery when the car was not even one year old and I was charged RM270 although the car was still under warranty.

Defective petrol / gas tank after delivery.

Defective fuel indicator.

Faulty power windows and reverse sensor.

Engine gets stuck at high rev all the time even when in free gear.

Extremely noisy engine as compared to other cars in the same class.

Driver's front legs tend to hit the protruding lever of the steering wheel when entering or exiting the car.

Remote control is weak and unreliable.

The interior of the car vibrates and creates lots of noise like a 10 year old car. (This is very typical of proton cars!!)

General comments?

The performance of the car has improved as compared to Wira and Iswara.

Very sporty design.

However the quality of the car is extremely disappointing. Strongly advice everyone especially females not to buy this car if you travel alone often as this car is very unreliable and you might put yourself in danger if the brakes down.

I was made to pay for the defective car battery and the fused light bulbs although the car was still under warranty. This is very unfair because I have to pay the price for the poor quality components of the car.

I should have learned from my past mistakes (I previously owned a proton wira) that proton cars are poor in quality and will continue to be like this. Proton will always take things for granted because it is exempted from certain taxes imposed on other car brands.

Please dot not buy this car if you can afford other cars.

I defintely agreed with you that these car give a lot of problem. Especially the sensor, door knot is not responding and doors always jam where you cannot open from outside. Overall, poor service by proton sales team and technician.

This is Proton... if compared to Produa, I would say Produa quality is much better than Proton even I did not own a Produa. Anyhow, now a day, you have much choices...

Perodua quality is also very poor. But you cannot blame Perodua because it is producing mostly small cars. So, nobody had any high expectation anyway for Kancil.

I see that you are fast in driving, I recommended you to change the tires to Yokohama Advan Neova, suspension. All I can say. Gen2 is perfect in performance it just stuck by quality.

Definitely gen-2 quality is very disappointing. performance are underpower while interior looks ugly which made up of plastics. for sure my next car will not be proton after seeing wira, waja and gen-2 has been disappointing.

Here is the 'proton' formula:

2005 years made car = 1989 years quality

Buy proton new cars = Buy 1990 N. Sunny 130Y.

I'm driving an Altis and my wife is Gen2...to compare the two... definitely not far... like comparing a horse with a cow...however...we both bought them in 2005. One year past, the Gen2's left power window and motor replaced 3 times, left & right drive shafts replaced 1 time, radiator hose bursted 1 time, backseats rattling many times... stick ducktape...solve problems temporarily, latest... aircond vent squeaks...don't know yet how to solve. Altis, still going problem free till to date. Moral of the story, as much as you want to be patrotic for supporting Malaysian car (Before Altis I had Saga 1.5s, Wira 1.5 and Waja 1.6)...they don't give a damn about our expectations, they want it all though they have been freed from excise duties, etc...they want to profit more than those non-national makes instead of passing to us a good quality car at cheap prices... they let us support them with bad quality cars at cheaper prices... this has to end!! I'm getting my wife to change to either Vios, City, Sentra, or whatever car that is not made in Malaysia. Proton!!! Today you lost another customer!

Hey man, don't ever think about it! With the same price, I suggest you purchase the Hyundai Accent, it's got 2 versions which are family and sporty. Just take one of them.

Interior is much much much more better than a Gen 2. Gen 2 is really problematic and interior is SUCKS! All plastic made! His brother (Wira) interior quality even better than him!

I am a proud Gen-2 owner, & having had owned the car since 2005. We sold our Waja to get the Gen-2. Except for some minor issues, I have no complaints and I wouldn't compare it to a Toyota.. but typical of some of my fellow Malaysians, they wud be kiasu enough to want to want RM10 value, but insist on paying RM1.

I have 2 other cars...1 is the mercedes W210 which I have had since 1997 for my daily use to work & and BMW E46 for my missus which we had since 2000.

I bought my gen-2 in 2005. First, it's a very pleasant experience until I got stuck with it. The crank case level is too low to the ground plus the material has very low quality. Bocor easily la.

I bought a new gen.2 1.3 late 2005 model which at that time that model just new release to market. Now after one year about 20 times I had to go to service center because low quality parts and low quality after sales. This my problem during one year - 2 times replace f/r shock absorber, ECU, power steering pump, f/r power window, rear boot damper, aircond leaking, engine under power, f/l lower arm, knocking absorber mounting. Don't buy this "recyclebin" car bro!

Gen 2 - is not a generation 2 car. lousy engine that the japanese used in the early 90's. no market value, it is truely a buatan malaysia local product. nice on the outside, but rotten on the inside. I truthfully hope Proton will improve their cars dramatically.

Ya, it is true. Cars nowadays used old engine, but with newly improve engine remapping. Gen 2 engine derived from Ceuropean old school car, not japanese. If Gen2 uses japanese engine,it would be so easy to install japanese performance gadgets and modify it.

Even a japanese car used old engine with more improved fuel economy through engine management system. Some even offered twin spark and 7 CVT transmission.

Try to be on the track if you would like to comment about the model itself.
