1991 Chevrolet Beretta GTZ from Switzerland - Comments

"A money eater!"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

This car has been having problems, ever since I bought it. Here`s what went wrong:

Replaced cylinder head and gasket.

Replaced all four brakes.

New engine mount installed.

Rust on the chassis.

New exhaust system installed.

Slipping clutch.

Electrical problems.

Engine stalling once in a while.

General comments?

This car is probably the worst car I have ever owned. If you buy this car, be prepared to visit the garage frequently and expect high repair bills. I will definitely not buy a car from this manufacturer again.

I have a friend that had the same car and even more problems. He dumped thousands into it but it kept going wrong. He even had the original Quad 4 rebuilt. He got really screwed up with bad computer codes so he decided to sell it. So I bought it cheap. AND YOU KNOW WHAT!! I got to pull the cylinder head off this weekend to replace a oil pressure relief valve. Oh well.

I own a 1990 GTZ with the Quad 4. Yes I have replaced the head gasket. I brought it knowing I would have to replace it sooner or later. That was 40,000 miles ago, With 131,000 miles now on the car it is still fun to drive. Yes they are expense to repair, but they are so much fun to drive.

Honestly, replacing brakes/clutch and having rust on a 9 year old, 130,000 mile car is pretty normal. Being the owner of another 1991 Beretta, I can attest to the head gasket failure of the Quad4 and to the electrical issues. But the repairs my Beretta has needed were few and far between. And also extremely cheap.

Aside from items you would expect to wear out over time (brakes, alternators, seats), I've had incredibly good experiences with my Beretta. It's currently got 162,000 miles and is still going strong.

Had a 1990 GTZ. Great car, but it was on it's last legs by the time it had 90k on the clock.

I have a 1991 gtz and I love that car I've torn apart and rebuilt the brakes 3 times and I just can't seem to get them right I've brought it to the shop still the same. but mine is a 3.1 its quick and I'm glad its not a HONDA.lol.but I bought it with 150k now has 163k I've replaced quite a few things timing chain, MAF mass air flow sensor exhaust tires head plentium cover gaskets a radiator hose broke one of the wires to my fuel injectors was exposed short out my whole car (had to rip the whole car apart to finally find it

oh and not to mention all the car washes and premium gas. but all in all this car is worth it they are kind of rare and one of them with a big six in it they are fun I like to tell people it's a 4 then I smoke em.

Hopefully you know that the 4cylinder quad is faster then the v6 anyway, so tell them it's a 6 lol.

I have a 1990 gtz with the quad four only 150k for miles. mine leaked around the sun roof and caused my head liner to deteriorate big whoop I removed it and sealed the leak I replaced all four brakes and a radiator tank I wouldn't sell her if I had to. and I would buy another to tweak the motor even further mine was dyna tested at 220 hp.

I presently own a Bright Red GTZ and it's one fun car!!! and having such a rare car lots of people will ask you what you have... I know those car tend to have few more problem then most recent engines, but when you think about the the Quad4 made 180hp back in 1990...on a four cylinder. Sure it's getting costy to repair now, but it's like every car...when it get old and gets driven hard it's more fragile.

Yeah I have a 91 Beretta GTZ and it's been a total nightmare from a few days after I bought it.. It looks nice, and races like a dream, but the steering is horrible!!! In fact, it got so bad that I ended up in a crash!!! Head gasket's having problems too, causing the engine to overheat... Wish I woulda known all this before I bought the thing!
