"Poor driving and ownership experience"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Soon after receiving my new X-type 3.0 Sport it became apparent that it was extremely difficult to drive the car smoothly and at low revs the vehicle kangarooed. On engaging first gear the car lurches, and once in motion the drive-train whines. This makes for a very unpleasant driving experience which has ruined my ownership of the vehicle.

The vehicle has also suffered from amongst other things air-conditioning failure, several recalls, repeated central locking failure, acrid odour in the cabin, passenger seat airbag faults, corrosion of alloy wheels, boot release failure, and a notable ‘clunk’ following starting up.

I would urge prospective purchasers to test drive the car very carefully in order to judge for themselves.

General comments?

I have just purchased a X-type 2.5 Sport, after many years of various "fast cars" I decided on a 4 door saloon to keep my wife happy.

After 3 years with an extremely reliable Alfa 156 2.5,

I decided to P/X against a very pretty Jag.

I have owned over 40 cars some good some very bad, but this X-type is absolutely something else, I could have bought a 530i I could have bought an A4 3.0 quattro sport I have driven both of these and that's why I bought the Jag.

It is not the gentleman's express that the advertisements let you believe, but a full out stormer (or have I just got a good one?) I now see a 3 series BMW and hope it is n M3 just so I can beat him in the bends!!!

Russell.

Hmmmm not so sure about the previous comment. I have recently test driven three X types (two from a jag main dealer) a 2.5 SE auto, a 3.0 SE auto and a 3.0 Sport Auto. Quite honestly I thought the performance of all three was under-whelming to say the least, plus I thought that the auto-box was one of the most lethargic I have come across - it is a bit jerky and seems to hunt around for a gear when you are trying to exit from a corner. The main problem though was with the build quality: there were squeaks and rattles from the dashboard plus I thought that some of the trim looked like there was a definite cost-cutting exercise going on. The plastics used on the doors and dash were pretty tacky and some of the switchgear felt that it would break off in your hand with a bit of use. No offence, but there is no way that the Jag is anywhere near the build standards of BMW, Mercedes, Audi and the latest Alfa Romeos.
