Currently has neither power window working, just makes a grinding noise like the motor is trying to put them down, but can't. Also will not pass inspection and has major steering problems. Stiff until 5mph, than shakes badly at about 25-70mph. Sometimes stiff when turning at slow speed and mis-aligned. Told it needs a passanger tie rod end and 2 ball joints.
I'd love to hear a reply or advice from other Thunderbird owners preferebly, for what usually causes your windows to cease up. I'm trying to fix it myself and have failed so far. Its not very comfortable but hasnt cost a penny aside from oil changes and wipers in last 12k......finally brought it in, my mechanic says its trash.....
I have an 89 thunderbird also and it needs a new tranny and it needs lots of work, in my eyes such as both 02 sensors, a throttle position sensor and my ac dosent work along with the power mirrors and the interior lights and the driver side power belt and once the seal folded over for my driver side window and it pulled all of the mounts off of the window when I was putting it down so I had to just pull the window out completely and reglue the mounts. but I am going to fix everything eventually and It needs a ball joint of some sort and a new right strut spring because it broke in half and the car was repainted atleast once. I have been slowly puting a sterio system in it also and I am slowly trying to imfrove my car. I once took an off ramp that was made to be taken at 25mph I took at 75mph even after breaking the spring. I think you should fix your thunderbird and keep it on the road. It is a one of a kind type of car that is slowly disappearing. Thunderbirds make a good cars and they handle quiet well and look good.
