1997 Dodge Intrepid ES from North America - Comments

"Got a good thing going with the power, but needs work"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Water pump failed.

Tie rod ends shot.

Mis-shifts during gradual acceleration @ 50mph.

Slight hesitation during hard acceleration.

General comments?

The car is too heavy for its suspension.

Has an extremely impressive engine response: 1/4 mile run: 15.75 sec @ 98 MPH (decent for a front drive slug of a sedan). Has an impressive torque curve that remains fairly constant from idle all the way to the redline. Translation: you'll feel acceleration in every gear at the redline (most would severely drop off).

I've got the same car and never heard of it running more than 17 flat in the 1/4. Is yours stick and was everything stock?

Yeah, I agree, those numbers are definitly inaccurate if the intepid is stock.

You guys are dumb all intrepids run almost 15 flat out of the factory I have one with 159,000 miles on it and it runs 16's at around 95-97mph. the only thing aftermarket about it is dodge brakes and dodge replacement water pump. you guys must run the feminine woman engine A.K.A. 3.3l and there is no manual model and if there was it would run the 1/4 even slower becasue automatics ECU optimises shift points through every gear depending on acceleration amount to save power from gear to gear get your facts strait.

The feminine engine would be the 2.7L not the 3.3L...

Intrepids didn't have a 2.7 liter engine in 1997.
