Needed attention to pneumatic door locking system.
Electric antenna failed.
Apart from routine engine oil & filter changes - that's all.
Reliable durable car with lots of pleasing detail-design touches.
Nice fascia, centre-console and interior seating.
Rides a bit sporty, not floating like big American cars.
This model still looks good today, even though this body shape came out in 1979.
Strong residual value - car was sold for more than it cost.
It is great that you are satisfied with your Mercedes 380SE. I own a 1987 420SEL which I had acquired at 219,600 and just put 600 miles on it. The only recommendation I have for you is the timing chain which can go out at a certain age. By failing to replace the timing chain in a timely manner can cause the valves to bend because the chain becomes sloppy and it skips the teeth. You will hear the chain grinding and the car is going to jump timing where the car will shake. The reason why I am telling you this is, my timing chain is about to go out and sometime I have difficulties starting up the car. After all that is said, they are great cars and if you invest into it then the car should hopefully last you up to 300,000-400,000 miles.
