1991 Ford Tempo GL from North America - Comments

Well let's see. It has this annoying problem of stalling when you are waiting at lights, or have just started it first thing of the day. The company can never figure out what is wrong. Overall, I am very happy with it.

This car is on loan from a family member, who did not use it much. That's why it is in such good condition and has such low mileage. Other than regular age and abuse from not being used, its great.

I did not like the lack of cup holders, but with gas at 1.60 these days, I do like the fuel economy.

It heats up nicely, but the AC is weak, and the old stuff is hard to find to fill her up. I am very comfortable in the seats, and I think for its original price it was a steal. I hope to have many fond memories with this great car.

Before I saw this comment I have thought my 91 Ford Tempo stalled frequently just because of its age. Actually I have the same problem and I believe this is a design bug. (when you are waiting at lights, or have just started it first thing of the day).

I may be able to possibly help solve the stalling problem. I also have a 1991 Ford Tempo that has served me well at 172,000 miles. Check/replace the fuel injection sensor assembly (mpn:f2sz*9j460*a @54.00) located on the firewall. Very simple to replace.

Note: the "SERVICE ENGINE" light had finally come on and forced me to further troubleshoot the problem. I hope this helps.

The rough idle/stalling problem may be solved by removing the rubber flex coupler from the air cleaner to the butterfly valve, use some fuel injection/air intake spray cleaner and an old tooth brush and clean rag. Scrub with the brush, both sides of the valve and surrounding area, then wipe clean with a lint free rag. The slightest buildup can cause problems.

This has worked well for me... 145,000 miles and still going.

I need help solving this problem with my 94 tempo GL.

The automatic transmission is changing gears at 4,000 rpm on every gear and I don't know what to do now.

The car has 128.000 k on it and in good condition.

I have a 1991 Tempo. It has 61k original miles. Basically it is dependable. I have recently had trouble with the blower motor. It appears to cut off the air flow to the vents and the air blows to another location in the dashboard. It happens when the vehicle accelerates. Upon deceleration, it returns to normal operation and blows air out the dash vents. Last night the blower cut off and no longer works. Mechanics said it sounded like it may have some sort of vacuum problem and has expanded into an electrical problem. No one can correctly diagnose the problem or suggest a repair. The part's manager cannot bring up the blower system on his Ford parts computer. Is there any help for me? I own several Fords. I have the same problem beginning in my 1995 F-150. I had a blower problem that recurred in my 1999 F-150. Is there a problem with Ford blower motors in general? Thank you.
