Oil leaks that where costly to locate and repair They required a lot of labour.
New exhaust at 100,000miles (expensive). For MOT.
New front suspension arms 100,000miles. For MOT.
General servicing is expensive, but needed if the car will get to a high mileage. Not a very mechanic friendly machine.
The Omega is a good family car and very cheap to buy secondhand.
Fuel economy is good 24mpg in town and 35mpg on long slow motorway drive.
Its underpowered with very neutral handling which makes it dull to drive (I hoped a 2.5litre and rear wheel drive might be a little more exciting).
It's a great car for going on holiday with the family, posibly while towing a caravan.
So it's good for holidays.
What about the rest of the time.?
"Costly repairs & labour"
You didn't buy a Fiesta... big car = big prices.
"New expensive parts at 100,000miles"
100k isn't bad for an exhaust system or suspension arms...
"Expensive servicing & not mechanic friendly."
Expect to pay around £300 (average) per year on servicing -and yes, mechanics do shy away from Omegas - it may be the V6 that scares them.
"good family car. cheap to buy. Fuel economy is good 24mpg/35mpg"
Couldn't agree more!!
"underpowered & not exciting"
With just you in the car, 1/2 tank fuel & you can throw it around & powerslide away - not dull, just stable.
"caravans & holidays only?"
not really, ditch the mobile chicane & it's a real everyday car.
