Left front wheel bearing (caused form hitting a sidewalk in winter)
Driveshaft needed rebuilding-silly BMW design where the you joints cannot be simply un-clipped for the yokes.. rather they need to be cut out, and balanced on a special machine (absolutely useless measure used by many higher end manufacturers)
A/c updated form r12 to r134 when reciever/drier was replaced.
Interior fan motor replaced-common on higher mileage cars... regardless of type.
Super car for highway travel!!! fuel economy meets many 4cyl engines when at cruising speeds.
Very easy to maintain/work on.
Last of the nimble BMW's that were loaded with options, yet simple to work on.
Watch out for timing belt replacements!!!
At 260,000kms, the original engine and trans, and clutch still performed like new!!!Even after I got rid of it, the new owner still was enjoying it!!!
Excuse me for being a doubting Thomas, but why would you think the car is still on its original engine, gearbox and (particularly) clutch, when you have not owned the car from new?
They don't make them like this anymore because they want to sell us new parts, assemblies and electronic modules to make lots of money.
In response to the previous comment, I contacted the previous owner who had all of the bills from new, hence how I knew the history of the car.
I had the exact same problem! I hit a curb also. my you joint went bad, and I ended up replacing the hole driveshaft. luckily my father owns a car shop that works on bimmers. but ya I know how ya feel.
Arrghh!! It's not a "you" joint. It's a U joint, which is short for universal joint.
