Thermostat went bad.
CV joints make a noise when turning sharp.
Sunroof does not close.
Automatic transmission slips at times when shifting to 3rd gear (The s3 light starts blinking). I changed the fluid and added some Lucas that seemed to help.
Rotor came apart in the distributor these cars are notorious for that, use high quality parts when tuning up.
Radiator started leaking; they’re made out of plastic. I changed mine out to a metal one. They should have metal ones to start with not the cheap plastic ones that can’t be fixed.
The car handles great, rides a little rough, but has a solid feel on the road.
It’s the only car I know of that can destroy its sun visors or strangle the driver with those stupid automatic seat belt contraptions (If you have the visors facing the door window and stop the car). Just don’t stick you head out of the window and open the door at the same time, you could risk decapitation.
Under moderate to hard braking at high speeds the steering wheel shakes meaning the brake disks in the front are warped. It does have 4 wheel disk brakes, which really helps it to stop.
Air conditioning works great except in really hot weather, it doesn’t cool as good, might have to get it checked out.
Overall, it really is a good car the only reason I wouldn’t buy another one is because I try to do all my own tune ups and maintenance and this car has no room in the engine compartment to work with.
Man I forgot how much fun those seatbelts are. Yeah got choked a few times by it, and broke of the visor : (
Hmmm, you are correct there isn't much room in the engine bay...however, I've had mine for almost 16 years... never had any major problems, distrib did go bad after 14 years, my radiator also did leak, tranny does slip like you said, as well my sunroof didn't want to open, but closed well... just check the contacts...oh, I did replace the axles... and I think that is about it after 16 years... I say pretty damn good... I did finally replace my timing belt after 15 years and just as precauc I did the alternator, cam and crank seals, few other seals... and my starter...
There is plenty of room to do the "normal" maint... but he is correct with some issues... but hell I would buy another one without a doubt.
I am looking for some molding, weather stripping and some interior parts... the plastic is about all that don't want to hold up after 16 years.
On a 1990 acura integra ls would any body know if i have to remove timing belt in order to replace water pump.
Hey I'm the original poster here. Just remember to change your timing belt on this unit. Mine ended up breaking while I was hauling ass down the freeway. Once that belt breaks these engines are designed to self-destruct (pistons impacting valves). I ended up donating mine to Kars-4-Kids. Now I'm back to driving my 84 Subaru, it’s a beater, but at least it doesn't have those evil timing belts on it...
