I had to wait 7 months to get it (although they promised 3 at first).
The time when MB-cars where known as "just fill it up and ride it" have long been gone...).
It's impossible to ride from one service interval to the other without something going wrong.
I've now been waiting since October for my new 110CDI. Having been given 11 different delivery dates I am now starting to lose faith even before I receive it. As you can guess I am still waiting... Thanks a lot MB!!!
I am on the verge of purchasing a secondhand Vito, as yours it is of 1997 and the 110 turbo diesel model with air con and 115000 kms on the clock. But now that I have read this I hesitate, especially as I have noticed that the van already seems to have been on sale for an abnormally long time (over three months).
Yes, this car is BAD!! I have now 60.000km on it, and have had one engine, two turbo's, etc... A hellish experience!!
And do not say I cannot ride with Mercedes, I had until now eight Mercedes (all normal cars: 240d, 300td, 300se, etc) without any problems, even up to 350.000km done with one, really good cars, but THIS VITO IS TERRIBLE!!! NEVER AGAIN!!
If you publish a horror book, send a copy to me. I want to be the first person to read it.
I bought my new Vito CDI 112 in Luxemborg in October 2001.Great van to drive, got to be the fastest and best handling van available in the UK. Three years hard work and 150000 miles later no major problems. So far I have only had the following faults repaired.
New exhaust system @ 30000 miles (warranty).
New injector pump @130000 miles.
I use my van daily, loaded with 1000Kg, only on third set of front discs and pads. Fuel consumption 32 mpg dispite cruising at 85-95 mph on motorways and air-con switched on. MB parts are cheaper than Fords, but MB service is expensive. I would certainly order a new MB Vito CDI 115, but maybe wait until teething problems have been sorted out.

I have had my Vito taxi for 3 years and its cost me a fortune in repairs. It's a 110cdi with air con that hasn't worked since a year ago. The temperature control for the heater blows hot air when its switched off, which is awful on a hot sunny day. The fuel consumption around town is abysmal, no better than 29 mpg, going up to 35 mpg on motorways. The front brake pads need changing every 7000 miles. Ball joints can't be replaced without replacing the bottom wishbones at around £189 per side plus fitting and vat!I had a fuel pipe split at the back of the engine, it cost me £428 to have it replaced, the parts only came to just over £8.00, the rest was fitting and vat.
Over the last 6 months I have spent over £5000 on repairs. Not what you would expect of a 3.5 year old Mercedes.
I will never buy another Mercedes of any sort, after the appalling experiences I have had so far.
I have recently bought a vito 110cdi and never never never again I cannot beleive the problems I have had with it I am self employed and need my major tool to start in the morning!
I have spent over £1000 in the last 10 months already I have had a problem with it starting in a morning and no-one in seems to know what the problem is!i have been told by PEOPLE to start to replace the injectors which these PEOPLE have told me 1 costs £184+vat hahaha jokers. just had the valve fitted on the diesel filter from my local garage. (who hates me bringing the mb in) 2nd day now and it started this valve costs just £7.00 from the PEOPLE! (food for thought)
I purchased my mercedes Vito 110 second hand at an auction in new zealand, I have done over 60,000 kms in the last 18 months without a problem. Would buy another one tomorrow.
