"Seems everything but the engine and transmission falls apart"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Odometer stopped recording at approx. 140000km - line fell apart in mechanic's hand.

Brakes needed replacement at approx. 145000km.

Starter died at approx. 150000km.

Ball joint, tie rod and spring consistently breaks (4 times since purchasing).

Alignment consitently needed.

Many parts have/are corroded.

Power steering fluid just sprung nice leak - all over engine... causing smoke. Mechanic mentioned tons of other problems, amounting to approx. $1500 CDN to fix. Am taking it to a family friend for cheaper repairs.

General comments?

I have owned this car for 3 years. I hate this car, but it takes me from A to B cheaply. I bought it in 2002 for $3500 CDN and it is my first car. It was previously a Bell Canada car, and it was purchased at an auction, fixed up, and sold to me.

I have kept up with maintenance and get junk in return. But the engine and transmission have never caused me a problem, and it is good on gas. Did I mention I hate this car?

145,000 Km? Or over 90000 miles? And the parts started wearing out? Brakes? Starter? I am surprized these parts lasted this long - these are "wear" items, that you expect to wear out in a certain time. It looks like it was your car's time.

You state: >>I have owned this car for 3 years. I hate this car, but it takes me from A to B cheaply. I bought it in 2002 for $3500 CDN and it is my first car.< I think you are doing pretty good for a 3000 dollar car. It looks like minor repairs so far?

>I have kept up with maintenance and get junk in return. But the engine and transmission have never caused me a problem, and it is good on gas.< Hmmm - a good engine and trans, and it is still running with only minor repairs? Doesn't sound like junk to me.
