What's going wrong with the car... almost everything...
- No heat and ventilation at delivery. Took 3 weeks and 2 dealers to solve the problem.
- Lights flashing in the dash (1500 km).
- Radio stopped to play sometimes (1500 km and again at 7000 km).
- Trunk shocks did not work when temperature is under -15 degrees (1600 km).
- Wipers not working (1800 km).
- Back up lights working at the place of rear lights (1800 km).
- Water infiltration near the driver door resulting in humid seat belt (3000 km).
- Front glasses very hard to use (4000 km).
- Temperature gage gives wrong indications (4000, 5000, 6000, 7000 and 8000 km, checked 5 times and never repaired properly).
- Rust under a rubber on the driver's door (7500 km).
- Handbrake handle replaced 2 times.
- Oil burning (around 1 liter for 800 km) at 8000 km.
- Brakes are noisy (8000 km)
And many others that I don't have in mind.
Hard on gas.
Very poor assembly.
Handle is good, gearbox too.
Customer service of GM Canada and dealer very poor.
Trunk is big, but not easy to access.
Automatic lights very useful. They shoud add a system to open the lights in the dash independently.
There is no such thing as a 2004 Cobalt. At this time, the Cavalier was still Chevrolet's small car.
This is what I suspected about the Cobalt.
I had one as a rental, and although the ride and handling were OK, (The ride was much better than a Cavalier or Sunfire) the seats were almost as bad as a Cavaliers, and the fit & finish was not up to the quality of most imports.
It's too bad that the domestic automakers won't build a small car without making it "cheap".
I completely agree with this review. Cobalts are total junk.
If you read down at the bottom of the review, it is regarding a 2005 Cobalt.
I have to disagree with you on the base cobalt. I got ls features and love the car. I agree my brake will flash periodically once amonth sometimes, but then goes off. I find it annoying, but not enough to take to the dealer yet.
I have had fit and finish problems; door rattled when closed the driver side; passenger side seems OK. GM fixed under warranty. Another fit and finish issue was the corner b pillar was not pieced another fix by gm. overall I am satisified with the car. No mechanical problesm like the fords I have owned. the car is peppy a bit slow at take off have to gun, but torque is great. the car is noisy, but small cars are. the focus is noisy as well as the civics at high idles.
Overall satisified with my 2005 cobalt base. I have auto lights; cruise; and clickers for the doors. However, my next purchase probably will be a Honda Accord or Civic because my dealership experience with GM was poor and I was not refunded for the 500 dollars they stole from me when I made the purchase.
