1987 Holden Commodore Vacationer from Australia and New Zealand - Comments

Two weeks after I got the car I crashed it into a pole just outside my house. It was wet and my car was running premium unleaded, I had 4 friends in the car with me. I took off from the lights and my car just limoed in first gear then came second, by this time we were doing about 55km/h and the car was on a 90 degree angle. It continued on for about 15 meters then it did a 180 degree turn and smashed into the pole.

After that it went into the panel shop for repairs. Full panel repairs and a 2Pak white paint job, the car was looking better than ever but I was out of pocket for about $4000.

Three days after it came out of the panel shop the car just died while I was driving and just managed to roll home. Later I found that it was the crank angle sensor (another $525).

Having spent the best part of $5000 on the car on top of the purchase price I decided to do it up a bit.

Next came the extractors and exhaust, then a uni filter, then a stage 3 head and cam all finely tuned by a Chiptorque performance chip.

To cut a long story short, $23500 later I had a V8 killer, that looks good and had a killer interior and stereo.

Best cars ever made!

Absolutely sweet. I can only dream of having my VL up to those standards. Please could you send me some pics, or details on what you did, and how you did it. I'm deciding what next to do to mine, cold air induction, or fix up the suspension and lower it 2 inches.

How much did the head, cam and chip cost? I have a VL with pacemaker extractors, big exhaust, sports air-filter, but want the same as yours, could you give me some ideas?

You spent $525 on a crank angle sensor, god damn you can get them for $120 from Repco and they are made by the same people. You should try a turbo with the same mods, they absolutely haul.
