"Expensive and not worth the money"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

New tyre's required just after the 18,00 mile service and a comment on the service that the brakes would need seeing to on the next service.

2nd service new discs required as binding - Renault have offerred to pay 50% trade price - but I have to pay 50% of retail price nearly £200 but the dealer will not contribute anything. Dealer was curt in his response to my asking if it was correct that the cars are stored abroad in a compound and the disc get rusty - prior to delivery the discs should be cleaned if not cleaned then they bind - Could this be anything to do with the problem? Has anyone else experienced this? Is it unusual for discs to need replacing so soon? First car I have had that needed tyre's and discs in the first 2 years.

General comments?

Ask the dealer what the design thickness of the brake disc is, what is is currently, and what the minimum thickness is.

The discs will need replacing if they are cracked or if they have worn to the minimum thickness - Unlikely in 18000 miles unless you are very hard on them. The binding is not caused by the discs, but by the calipers seizing. This is usually pretty obvious (burning smells, obvious effect on performance, front wheels very hot, possible pull to one side)

It does sound as if the dealer is trying it on and it might be time to go to another one.

I agree with the first comment. Very unlikely that discs were dead after 18000 miles. You have the last Megane model so its quite improbable that the discs rusted because the car was stored in a open compound. Look at your discs after a nights rain and you will see already rust on them (true for any car), but..., the rust is only superficial and will disappear very quickly following a few brakes. Go to anther dealer next time!!

I have a Renault megane 2005 1.9tdi. Brakes need changing after only 20,000 kms. Air con didn't work all summer and now works only manually. Waiting on a new sensor which renault tried to tell me that I didn't need. I' don't want another summer in Italy with the windows always down. I'm not very happy with the way the customer service and the steering pulls slightly to the left!
