"Best truck ever"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Loose ground wire caused the engine to run rough, couldn't find it, but when it was found and fixed it ran great.

General comments?

Wish I hadn't sold it, have a 98 GMC 3/4 ton 4x4 just like it, it has been in the shop 14 times since new, the 89 wasn't in once.

I have a 1989 GMC truck 117,000 miles on it. It is a great runner! 4.3 L vortec engine .I also have a PT cruiser and it's just sitting in my garage. It doesn't have the power I'm used to...

I have a red 89 GMC Sierra Pick up and I love it!! I would never get rid of it. I am from Alaska and have drove the pickup from Alaska to Ohio. The truck has 300,000 miles on it and it still runs great. Right now its in the shop getting a new paint job and we are going to turn the truck into a hot rod. My girlfriend has asked me to sell the truck because we have 2 kids but she has a car so I dont see any reason to get rid of the truck. I take it to work and on weekends we take the truck for a drive for cruising. Everyone always makes comments about my truck. I also named my baby girl Sierra after the truck.

I have a 1989 GMC sierra SLE with a 4.3 Liter Vortech engine. I bought it with 210,000 miles on it and it ran like a beast. I bought it for 2,500 and I don't regret it at all. I don't think that ill ever get rid of it. It know has 216,000 miles on it and it continues to run like a beast. Its driven about 210 miles every other week to see family, and it hasn't givin up on me yet. I keep my tune ups normal, and keep up with the oil, and tranny fluid. Seems like that's all I have to do with it. this is defenantly a truck that I would strongly suggest. Aaron MWC/OK.

I bought my '89 GMC Sierra brand new off of the show-room floor. It has been the greatest driving joy of my life. It has the 5.7 litre V-8 and runs like the true beast that it is. Pure fun and excitement. It also has the 5 speed manual tranny which adds to the hot rod sensation. I had it overhauled at 187k. I'll never get rid of it. It is still the best looking truck around these Oklahoma parts and it has much competition.

I recently purchased an 89 GMC Sierra, Z71 Regular Cab. She has seen some work in her day, but MAN I love this truck. It has the 305 V8, Flowmaster exhaust, a tranny cooler, bush bar and my undieing affection. I live on the east coast of Canada, and we have been inundated with snow already. I also work for our department of forestry, and let me tell you, this truck does NOT disappoint. I can't see ever getting rid of this baby.

I recently bought a 1989 GMC Sierra SL 2WD 4.3v6 3spd Automatic 89,000m the truck would idle rough even stalling out at a stop or on the highway. I replaced the thermostat and noticed a ground wire disconnected. I reconnected the wire and truck has run smoothly ever since! I will keep this truck forever...

I Have had my Sierra 2500 since it was taken off of the showroom floor. Right now I am living in Vermont. Trust me the 4wd in this truck gets worked a lot. This truck has never let me down and is still running strong. This truck has a very limited 7.1 liter 454 V8. It has plenty of power to do anything that I can imagine doing. Right now it is at 210,000 miles and still running strong.

I just bought a 89 GMC Sierra w/305 V8 and it has great power. It was my brother in law's and I don't have a clue why he gave it up, but his loss is my gain.I'm going to put some TLC into it and see how long she lasts.

Hi, I bought my 1989 GMC in 1998. now it has over 300k miles on it. it had an overhaul 3 years ago and it always works great. I love the truck because it never puts me down I have never gotten stuck in the mud, the only problem that am having now is that my battery dies if I don't use my truck for one day. if you know what might be wrong please write to me at danny6892002@yahoo.com thanks.

Well, I thought I would update things. I was the guy from Eastern Canada who worked for Forestry. Don't work for Forestry now, but still have the truck, still love it. However, it just cost me a small fortune. The rear end went in it, and it turns out that the original owner had it special ordered, so the rear end is a 3.73 instead of the standard 3.42. Lots of fun finding a reasonable replacement. That being said, the old girl is still humming along. Now if only I could afford to get the body done...

Hello, my name is Aaron, and I live in Los Angeles California.

I own a 1989 GMC Sierra SLE. I bought it from a friend about a year after he bought it from the original owner with 112,000 miles on it. Still have the OEM brake pads on the truck.

This truck is very very reliable. It's still strong @ 169,000 miles on it.

It's a 5.7 350 w/700r4 tranny. I upgraded the trans pan to an aluminum deep pan with fins & drain plug, AEM intake system, MSD wires, double roller timing chain, MSD cap/rotor kit, eaton posi unit on the rearend, 20"boss rims and it runs great.

Updated frontend face lift; ordered a 99/00 Esclade frontend, will change out the grille to a DENALI to keep it all GMC. Also added bushwacker fender flairs and new paint 3 years ago.

Still looks/runs good. Guys with new trucks are staring at my trucks and I love to tell them it's a 1989.

The sky is the limit on these trucks; best trucks GM every produced. From 1988-1994/95; All other problems here we come.
