2000 Chevrolet Malibu LS from North America - Comments

"The Chevy Malibu was a very bad choice"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

I have replaced brake pads twice and rotors once. Fuel gauge is never right. Engine surges on cold starts. Sometimes right when the engine starts, it feels like it goes into gear, but harder. Piston claps on cold starts. Coolant problem is now starting up. Ignition problem also just started. Half of my dash lights work.

The ABS light comes on while I'm driving every once in a while. When I apply the brake pedal, sometimes it vibrates like when your applying the brake on icy or snowy surface. The CD player won't eject sometimes or it won't play sometimes. Coolant Reservoir cracked. The HAVOC blower

motor only works after the 1 and 2 settings.

General comments?

I got the car used and wished I had seen all the reviews on this car. I would never buy a Chevy again. It seemed to do fine for the first 6-7 months like many other reviews I read, but now it one problem after another. Even the owners manual is a joke.

What I do like about the car is the room it has inside and very good gas mileage.

I will never get a GM vehicle again!

"When I apply the brake pedal, sometimes it vibrates like when your applying the brake on icy or snowy surface..."

That should happen. It's the ABS kicking in.

I know that the ABS is supposed to do that on icy or snowy surface , but it is summer and the road is dry. This happens mostly when I make a turn.

The ABS kicks in when you turn and brake so you don't lose control.

I HAVE A 2003 CHEVY IMAPALA WITH OVER 302,000 MILES the only repairs I made were a new piston rings regular maintenanceand a fuel pump

wow after reading these review I think I'm lucky.

I know this space is for comments, but I have questions after reading these reviews. I wanted to buy a used car for my 16 yr. old daughter. I found a 2000 Chevy Malibu with 118k miles for under 4k. This would be for just going to school and around town. I was going to take it to have a diagnostic test ran, but doing that on one car would be OK, every car would be too costly. We did not want to put a lot of $$ into it. You cannot find a small/mid-size car with fair mileage in good condition under 4k. Does anyone have comments or ideas? What about this Malibu I am/was (?) going to make an offer on? Thanks.

For the previous comment. For the price is not too bad, but I would make sure to purchase extended warranty especially if its over 100,000 miles on it. If you decide to have the diagnostic done to the car or any type repairs, try avoid going to dealerships for any service. I wish I had got an extended warranty on my Malibu. As you can see above, all the problems I'm having with my car. They all started around 100,000 miles one by one.

I bought a used Malibu (31,000 miles) and now I have 81,000 miles on it. I used to like this car. But now, I just replaced the motor mount. Bolts broke off inside the timing belt housing. Right before this bracket broke, the car was driving really funny. When I reach 40mph, the car drives really funny, like its either a bad transmission or not getting enough gas to idle at that high speed.

Anyone know of or have this problem?
