I don't know why water boils most of the time. Boiling water and overheating the engine is the biggest problem. I checked the radiator and the thermostat, but there was no problem. And the radiator fan works, I think most of the time.
Please help me because no one can solve this problem.
It is slow, but comfortable.
Maybe a bad head gasket? Check the cylinders compression. Also maybe the thermostat stuck in the closed position? Take it out, put it in a pot with water, heat it and watch if it fully opens as the water starts to boil. Also make sure that the cooling system is fully purged (all the air must bubble out).
Finally, check the water pump for rotten or broken blades.
Try removing the thermostat altogether and running without it.
If that doesn't work, try flushing your radiator and spraying it with high-pressure water from a hose from the back side of it to clear the debris on the fins.
Also, try fitting a new radiator pressure cap. (pressure relief valve)
Sometimes the spring slackens and they relieve pressure too soon.
What's so special about your car? - The fact that it overheats?
Additional info to the first to good tips.
Normal water boils at 100 °C, the car engine today are operating close to that temperature for more effiency. The coolant in the radiator should have elevated boiling point. We do not want water to boil because it will become steam.
Two things that can raise the boiling point.
1. Radiator is pressurized by the radiator valve, rated at 15 PSI, this maintains the pressure at 15 PSI and the boiling point will be 1 °F per PSI in this case the boiling point is now increased to 15 °F or 8 °C.
2. Addition of coolant such as ethylene glycol. The required concentration is about 30 to 50 %.
All in all, the boiling temp now is at least 120 °C.
I have an Opel Omega CD, the fan will start to run at 95 °C and in the dashboard the red line is in 115 °C. If the coolant is pure water, it will surely boil.
I hope this helps.
Agree.
My Opel Corsa does exactly the same and more. Sometimes I would be driving (in traffic or open road) and I would hear a click in the fuse box. The temp needle then goes from 90 into the red within 5 seconds and I pull over and switch off my car. Then it would SOMETIMES not start again for about 5mins.
My top gasket has blown and been replaced, radiator fixed, 2X new thermostat.
HELP! Don't know what to do!!!
Hi all, my opel corsa 2007 is driving me crazy, it heats up in summer to reach 100 degrees. she consumes a lot of water, and when I open water container, water is boiling and it gets out of the container. I took of the thermostat, same, but mechanican told me my thermostat is old and should be replaced. how can I cool my car more?? and when should the fan start, my fan starts working at 100 degrees, is that OK?
