"Super cheap, reliable and fun"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Replaced the fuel pump.

Needs a new clutch.

Some oil leaks in the camshaft area.

Some rust in the radiator (probably from the cylinder block).

Alternator probably needs replacing.

The battery has a habit of going flat (lucky I can rollstart).

Everything is cheap to replace (clutch is $50!!)

General comments?

Not all that quick, but performance is adequate and the fact that it's manual helps.

It cost $2000 when I bought it and has had about $250 spent on it including 4 tyres and rims.

Fun to drive and it handles reasonably well although there is too much body roll. A bit dodgy in the wet with 35 psi in the tires, but it makes the steering easier.

Seats are comfy. Has a gammut of rattles! Stock radio/cass is quite good.

I agree it's a cheap and reliable car, in the wet is a little dodgy though. Then again if you like going sideways it's pretty good I guess :)

A reliable little car, however it's sluggish towing small trailers. The small motor means economical fuel consumtion. An ideal first car if the motor is running well! Overall this car is a good old car if the motor is in good condition.

My Corona (ST-141 4 speed manual 2.0ltr wagon) I got at the end of 2002 I drive it extremely hard and all my mates are surprised that it is still going. All I have replaced are the tires which is a must for a young rev-head and a the original clutch. I did have one problem with the pollution thing (belt driven off the engine) it seized up, but that was an easy fix all I had to do was cut the belt off problem solved. Overall it is a great car, reliable, easy to drive, enough power for a first car, easy to steer even if it doesn't have power steering and not bad drifting. I am curious what other people have got there corona's up to in speed that is I got my up to 165kph on a highway easy, but it needed a wheel alignment. Send me your details on your car at punkjumpdrummer@hotmail.com.

Thanks.

My corona (cs) 1984 5speed manual has been up to 180km\hours and it drove like a dream considering what I do to my beast. We rally at least once a day out at Inman Valley I have only replaced the clutch twice, but now I am up for a new one and a new dif. I have gone through about six sets of tires and I have only had my p's for eight months replaced the gear box and engine, but the way that I drive it I'm quite glade that I brought the car and would not have gone for anything else.
