2002 Isuzu Axiom from North America - Comments

"Piece of dirt"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

I wish I found this website before I purchased my 2002 Isuzu Axiom. I seem to be having the same problems as most Isuzu owners. I bought it from a dealer only a month ago and now I don't even want to drive it. The transmission skips very often - we got the tranny fluid changed, but that didn't help. The brakes squeak too. Our dealer hasn't been very helpful, and actually were rude.

After the first few days of purchase, there were electrical problems where we couldn't roll up the windows or scoot the seats, and we froze on our way home during a 45 minute highway drive. After messing with the power box, it worked again, but that was a nightmare for a moment.

I thought the car was still under warranty according to the dealer, but when I got to an Isuzu dealer, they said it expired only days ago!! I hope it doesn't cost too much to fix, if anyone has suggestions, please help me. I am just a poor little girl.

General comments?

I have had a 2000 salvaged Honda Accord (frankenstein) for 3 years that works better than this thing that I've had only a month!

I am sure I will rid of this car very soon and will hopefully get a Chrysler.

Keep reading before you buy. A Chrysler would be a riskier purchase than an Isuzu. Stick with the Accords.

Maybe having your dealer pull a Car Fax report before purchase would have solved your problem! My Axiom runs like a champ!!!

A eighties or early ninties 3 or 5 series make a wonderful, reliable, fun car that can be had for under 3000 dollars in good condition.

Yeah, that BMW will be great until the first oil change or maintenance comes around and you see the bill. BMW's are unreliable and overpriced, people buy them simply as a status symbol. But back on the subject, I have only seen the Izuzu Axiom a few times and I think it looks great, why didn't they make more of them??

We bought or axiom new in 2002. Being that it was the first year in production we had no idea what to expect performance or maintinence wize. Its been four years 60,000 miles later and it has been the best most reliable vehicle we have ever owned. I am a Super Duty Ford Guy myself, but my wife and I both agree her axiom is fantastic! I would, and have recommended axioms to friends and family who are also pleased with their purchase.

The Axiom seems to be well-designed, but it is like any other odd model in that it will have strange little issues and parts may be harder to find. That's just a trade-off for driving something so delightfully unique. To the commentor who said that BMWs are just overpriced and unreliable: whatever. Mine has been the best car I have ever had and people tend to buy Mercedes as status symbols. I've been driving a Honda Passport, aka Isuzu Rodeo, for work and I have been impressed with the engineering, even though there are some quirks.

Yup, the transmission is a HUGE problem right around the 60K mile mark. The Axiom is the Yugo of SUV's.

I had the same problem with my car freezing up, but it was under warranty. It happened three time before they figured out that one of the wires was getting grounded.

I just fixed the clutch on my tranny, but besides that you will be happy with the car.

After you fix it it will last a long time.
