I bought this car for 350 dollars and the only thing wrong with it was that the engine was blown.
I have driven this car extremely hard which may account for some of the problems that it has had.
I have had to rebuild the manual 5 speed transmission four times.
The torque arm bolts strip out.
I have broken three transmission mounts.
The transmission does not like to go into second gear. It makes whining noises.
This is a quick car. The motor is out of a different car. I junked the 305 and put in a 350. The car has a lot of power and the stock transmission does not seem to be able to handle it.
The looks of this vehicle are spectacular. These cars have a lot of potential.
The exterior looks extremely aggressive and people respect the car when they see it. The t-tops are an added bonus.
The interior is so cool with the deep dash and the instrument cluster is spectacular. It feels like you are entering a cockpit of an air plane when you get in it.
There is not much leg or headroom for tall people. Especially the back seat :)
It guzzles a ton of fuel with a four barrel carburetor.
If you want a fast car with a lot of looks for extremely cheap then this is the car for you!
Your transmission is not built for your 350 engine. That is the reason Chevy did not have the 350/5-speed option because the 350 makes over 300 ft. lbs of torque. The 5-speed cannot handle the torque and unless you beef up the transmission you are going to have to rebuild it a lot more times.
I had an iroc-z to year87 t-tops I trade it for a lincoln I regreted so much that makes me want to cry I hope I could find other one like the one I had. I don't stop looking for it I will continue looking for it till I find it. (never let go of that car its beutiful baby.)
Should have bought a Mustang. They put out around 300 lb. ft. of tourque and the trasmission handles it just fine... even after teh super charger is installed making it around 375 lb. ft. of tourque. Chevy trannies have always been weak... except for the okld turbo 350 and 400 of course...
