"A fun little diddy with issues"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

I just bought the car, but noticed electrical problems already and if I run it hard the tranny gets stuck in second. when it runs right it runs great handles beautiful and is pretty quick. it has no rust which really suprises me becase I live on long island which is made of salt.

General comments?

So far I'm liking the car as a whole.

Can people no longer use the word "problem" anymore?? Everything has to be described as an "issue"! I am so sick of this trendy buzz-word! Wonder what other goofy word will be used next by people who want to sound intelligent??

I bought my 1991 Dayton es May of 1995. It is now April 1996 and when I bought it, it had 190,000 km. This was my first car because I am only 16 and just recieved my licence. Since then I needed to replace a ball joint, oil pan gasket, many different seals to stop the oil leaks got a head job done. Within a month a bearing on my crankshaft was broke due to over reving, bad luck ex-specially since I haven't even red-lined it yet. this ment we needed to replace the engine because that was the cheaper rout. while we were in there I got the flywheel replaced and a new clutch and throw-bearing installed. We transfered the seals and gaskets on to this engine. My tak works when it wants and there have been many other electronic issues. I did some research on this engine and have discovered that all of the 3.0 liters Chrysler uses even today are actually made by Mistubishi. They are a terrible design because many people have had the same problem with leaks. A oil change is a must on these engines minimum of every 3 months. I would strongly advise people to stay away from these 3.0 liters due to everything being aluminum and finicky. Besides all these major issues the car is very solid and takes corners like nothing! It is light and quick as well as roomy. I am no mechanic, but I do know some things. I hope other Daytona owners have better luck then I did.

I have to disagree with the previous comments, although the 3.0 liter Mitsubishi is known for burning oil, it is a very reliable engine. I have owned two daytonas, and a lebaron, all with the 3.0 liter in them and they are unstoppable. If you've had trouble with yours breaking, it is because the person who owned it before you, was a jackass, and constantly over-revved the engine.

Also if it is such a poor design, then why did you keep putting so much money into the car?

The gaskets and electric problems are not the result of a jackass owner. And if you had read my opinion more closely, you would have realized that these problems all occurred within the first few months. CLEARLY I had no choice in that matter than to get the thing running before I were to sell it. I understand that the bearing was the drivers fault. However, all those other problems are extremely common with other owners. I just posted my opinion to inform other buyers of some very common problems and to be careful when buying this "indestructible" engine. I was aware that I was buying an older vehicle that did have 190,000 clicks on it and a few repairs would be necessary.

I love my car!!! Except that stupid transmission! It's annoying. Other than that, it's rare and hot!
