Excellent so far. Small medium sized family saloon. Smooth ride, good grip with the tyres, it sticks to the road on cornering as well. Plenty of power in this size of 5 cylinder engine (2.4i auto) especially on motorways. Climate control in separate zones is good as well. Extremely safe car to drive with front, side and curtain airbags. Extras on the car include; Comfortable leather heated seats. Electric sunroof, Smooth Geartronic transmission (auto/Manual), metallic paint, upgraded Dolby surround sound system 'Premium Sound' with Cd/Mini disc, 12 speakers no distortion at max levels. Superb Xenon head lights, Sat Nav for UK/Europe (expensive at £2,200 but worth it) with RTI just upgraded to the latest DVD (£200), now gives latest traffic reports (accidents/hold ups on your route) very useful on motorway journeys, has added a totally new dimension to the Sat Nav system.
The whole driving experience is exciting in the Volvo S40 2.4i SE Auto, up to date it has been a joy.
Considered buying the new BMW 3 series, but as it has overtaken Ford Mondeo sales in the UK, it is now no longer to be considered anything special, there are just to many of the 'silver' machines to be seen on the road today.
The shape of the new S40 attracted me to it, totally different from the old model V40 saloon. For me I think that I have found, after much searching, what I think is 'MY' perfect car and I intend to keep it for a long time to come.
I urge you to try a test drive of this model, you won't be disappointed.
Think different...think Volvo.
This car isn't an appropriate family car. it's kind of small. a family car is something more like an SUV or a minivan. Most people I know can't get their family into a car like this.
It's a premium small sedan. Much like the C class. Here in the states, or more specifically in california, gas prices have sky rocketed so peope settle for small civics and corollas. Instead you have the s40 as the alternative with a touch of class anc comfort and more room then any economy sedan. Our family fits in our s40 perfectly I think those who can't need to take more trips to Subway instead of McDonalds.
Er, it's a Ford Focus saloon in a party dress! The only thing about the S40 that I would regard as premium is the price tag! To my eyes it does not look right - the middle of the car is too long in relation to the length of the boot and bonnet. In addition the centre console is a gimmick and the wood-effect trim is really awful.

One sweet ride. Ford may have use the same platform for different cars, but that does not mean the S40 is a Focus or a Mazda. Fiat used a ferrari engine in one of their cars, does that mean is a ferrari?? The S40 is a very stylish, classy car that loves to be driven. Oh yes lets not forget its safty record.
"Er, it's a Ford Focus saloon in a party dress!" Who would say something so CORNY?? Anyway, I would recommend this car to anyone looking for a nice smooth ride. Volvo has all the class without the flash...
