Just got this one for my girlfriend; was a lot of neglect... did brake pads and shoes and all wheel cylinders.. master cylinder kit- all new door rubbers- and a carb. kit in original carb... replaced the pooched five speed trans. with a four speed from one of my cars.. and replaced "ALL" fluids.. tires are like new so had them reseeted and balanced. also did over-all check on water pump- alternator-timingchain-wheel bearings-Transfer case-Ujoints-differentials-and electrical... this unit is ready for a hund-thou. no prob.
I for-see only routine maintenance This is the 4th Niva I have got on the road in 17 years... I have less and less negative issues with them every year...
Preventive maintenance "IS" the ticket.
This last one cost $300.00 to buy and another $550.00 for parts and of course my own elbow grease... There ain't another breed of 4X4 out there that I could have or would have got on the road for as little money... New $25,000-$50.000 dollar units cost that much and more per financed month... I will seek the comforts and luxuries of home- well- at home... LUV my Nivas. Cheers and Merry Christmas; Robert.
Great 4X4 for the money.
Don't expect to win any speed races.
Terrific review! Just great to hear from another Niva enthusiast with such an intelligent and commonsense attitude to 4X4 vehicles. Good on you. I agree with your sentiments 100%! There are people out there spending up to $50,000 on 4X4s that the Niva eats for breakfast! The funny thing is: they don`t realise that- and in a way, I`m glad they don`t.The Niva is one of the world`s best kept secrets. It`s also rapidly gaining a 'cult' status- and, in years to come, I predict the Niva will become widely sought after- as a CLASSIC example of what a REAL 4X4 is all about. Thanks for your greetings, and a Merry Xmas to you, your girlfriend, and to all Niva fans! Regards from Australia!
