General comments?

Don't let the looks of this car fool you. The Grand Prix is a beautiful piece of garbage. I thought that I was getting such a good deal. I bought the car from a local Pontiac dealer with only 33000 miles on it. Now I know why the previous owner had traded it in. The dealer has been o help whatsoever with this car. I traded in a Ford Taurus for this, a car that had very few issues, even with 160,000 miles.

The 3.1 Engine in this car is known to be troublesome. I found that out after I bought the car. The engine provides decent power, but don't expect to be thrown back in your seat. The transmission on this car is also problematic. Overall the car is comfortable, but the seats are a little stiff, especially after long trips. It returns decent gas mileage when its running right. I will never own another GM product.

I have the same car and have owned it since day 1 and I have had no problems what-so-ever! If you drove it right and got it serviced when it needed it than it wouldn't have given you any problems. One OF the Best Cars Out there!

Hello again. I wrote this original review and want to let the person above that I have had this car serviced at all proper times and have never driven this car recklessly or too hard. This car is just flat-out junk and I am very glad that I no longer own it. This car was a waste of my hard earned money and I am so glad that I no longer own this waste of sheet metal.

Hi there!

I also have a Pontiac, but mine is a 2001 Grand Prix.

Since you know how to fix the problems on your Pontiac I would appreciate if you could help me with my case.

As I said I have a Grand Prix 2001. I bought it used last September (2005).

Just after I got the car it started making a noise in the front end, but it usually went away after the car warmed up, it also had the check engine light on and very rarely I feel the transmission jerking a little bit between the first shifts.

But then recently the noise in the front end became louder and more regular.

I have an after market warranty, Lubrico, so I took the car to the shop to get it fixed and to check the check engine light.

The mechanic said that the check engine light is on because I need a new EGR valve, he said he could not feel the transmission jerking, and the big one: he said that I will need a NEW MOTOR that is the cause of the noise in the front end.

My car currently has 160.000 km (about 100.000) and I would like to know if that is a common problem of Pontiac.

Is that noise in the front end usually the cause to get a new motor?

Besides the noise in the front end my car never had a problem in the engine before, never failed to start or nothing like that, and that is what worries me, because just due to the noise in the front end I will need a new motor

Is that noise in the front end usually the cause to get a new motor?

Lubrico will only pay a maximum of 2500.00 and the mechanic gave me two options:

Get a new motor I have to pay 1080.00 extra and have 3 years warranty on the motor

Get a used motor and I will have to pay 370.00 and get only 90 days warranty.

Which one should I get?

Do you guys think I should take the car to another shop to get a second opinion? or that noise in the front end is a characteristic of engine failure?

Should I trust the mechanic Lubrico warranty send me to?

Thank you I appreciate your help.

PS I apologize for my many questions, but I am an girl and don’t understand much about cars mechanics.

Get 2 or 3 other opinions. He may be taking you for a ride to get money. I'd be suspicious. Go to 2 or 3 other shops, not connected in any way to this one.

Hello... I just purchased a 2001 Grand Prix from a pre-owned dealer. The car was running good until a couple of weeks after I've owned it. It makes noises when you start up the car, the check engine light stays on and off, my gas gauge wasn't working properly as well my water pump. My car stays in the the service more than I drive it. This vehicle is a piece of junk!!! I would never ever get another GM product as long as I live.
