"I would love it if it had no Transmission problems"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

My car just recently started to mess up on me such as when I go down the road my O/D light Flashes and I don't know what to do to fix it I have checked the Transmission Fluid and it reads Full. the only way I can stop the light from flashing is to pull over and restart the car. If there is anybody out there that can help me my E-mail is Chrisshervey@yahoo.com.

General comments?

I generally like the car besides transmission problem that I cannot figure out.

The car gets Very good gas mileage to be a V6.

Hi Dear:

I just googled for "contour O/D light flashing" and this was the first answer:

There are a few possibilities here:

1. Dirty trans fluid and filter will cause this.

2. Modulator would be another problem

3. Torque converter bad.

4. Servo bands worn.

You have a lot of miles on the engine, have it inspected by a good transmission mechanic..

Good luck to you.

The Contour is certainly not the best Ford ever built. However there is help by the CEG (Contour Enthusiast Group) should you need it.

You might as well consider replacing the Taurus with a 2003 or newer Taurus. They must be the best values you can get and I heard the 24 valve engine is fast. It might not accelerate as fast as the V6 Contour and use a bit more gas, but I consider it superior in comfort, reliability, safety and value.

To be clear: we have a 2000 Contour with the 4 cylinder engine and my judgment on the V6 is based on this website and the experience a friend of mine has.

We also have a 2003 Windstar. I believe the quality of Ford products has improved after 2002 but the reputation is still based on older cars. Therefore you get great value in used Ford products. Conversely, some top rated makes have dropped in quality, but their reputation is still based on older models. Therefore they still demand an exorbitant premium (i.e. stupid money). Just my opinion.
