2005 Hyundai Accent GLS from Iran - Comments

"Nice little car at its price"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

1.Something wrong with engine mount on drivers' side

2. too much engine noise during acceleration specially above 100 Km/hour. but if you go downhills, no sound at all !!!

3. noise coming from underneath rear right seat (perhaps noisy fuel pump?)

4. As recommended by dealer. I changed the 13" standard steel rimsto 14" aluminum with 185 tyres for better traction. Wonder this was a correct move and will not affect total performance of the car. Could some experts care to give me an advice?

General comments?

At present, it's only the engine noise which bothers me too much

Check engine mounts, for tightness. Check rubbers- are they cracked? Engine noise above 100 km/h is probably normal- after all, the little engine is working hard at high R.P.M. Noise from under rear seat? Probably a suspension component- unlikely to be the fuel pump. Best not to alter factory specs. on tyre and rim size- does not make much difference to road holding and traction in a car like this. Insist your dealer investigate and rectify these items to your satisfaction and at no cost to you.

Engine noise is actually poor/cheap design of exhaust system.

I had 2005 2door htchbck. bought it with 17miles.after 5months

and 10,750 miles later-realized how big of a mistake it was getting rid of my 2003 neon.

Never really had any major problems with the neon for its 84,000 miles, just tune-ups and brakes and it was a lot quieter

on the highway too.

Hyndai's warranty is very lame compared to its compettitors-just so you know-the dealership has right to refuse any engine claim-due to you changing the tires.

You should do like I did-buy a Subaru, thank me later!

Thanks very much to people who responded to me on this Hyundai Accent (In my country it's called Hyundai Verna)

Just quite recently, Hyundai started to manufacture (or rather, assemble) Accents and Elantras (here called "Avante" with the price almost twice as much as Accent) and dealers are not yet fully equipped with spare parts. I learnt I have to replace the engine mount, but the part is not yet available to me!

The constant "hum" noise under rear seat starts when you turn on the ignition and cuts off when you stop the engine without moving the car. In any case I'll have to report this to the dealer when I pass the first service/check up during 1000/2000 Kms. The car is brand new and has only about 600 Kms on it.

As for the wheels, the rims were changed from 13" to 14" as recommended by dealer himself so if anything goes wrong with the warranty they should be responsible. Lucky I kept the standard rims and can replace them anytime, bearing of course, extra stupid costs for the purchase of alloy rims and larger tyres! Meanwhile, in one of these car reviews on the Internet I saw somewhere that you can go to 14" alloy rims without any indication of consequences.

On the engine noise, while I realize the extent of the noise coming from a small engine which in fact is not yet broken in, but I can feel that the insulation between engine compartment and interior is somehow poor.

My friends, thank you again for your comments and I wish you all safe and pleasant rides!

I would appreciate and welcome any further comments from you.

Best regards.

I have this car too and I am from Iran too

I am too shocked with the engine noise; I don’t know what to do

Some one says it’s due too bad isolation some one says it’s because of rubber gasket holding the engine

I asked the dealer about that they said we (Kerman khodro) omitted to install

Engine isolation and you have to install it yourself after we bring the component.

I don’t know if they are right or not

Have you already got sure about the cause of this problem?

Have you already solved it?

Please advise me

I am too angry with them

I don’t know weather to have the car or to replace it with a kia rio.

My friend

I saw your comments on the engine noise. It seems if we are to keep the car we should just "tolerate" and coop with what we have in our hands as I don't believe "Kerman Khodro" would be in position to improve the situation unless the main designers at Hyundai listen to their customers and do something about it. On what basis "Kerman Khodro" says the noise can be eliminated or improved by users, I don't know. Why they don't have a proper engine mount, Hyundai should answer.

Generally speaking, The car is not bad (although it is brand new in our country and none of us can judge what will go wrong by its age). If we turn our back to this car, Peugeot Persia will be my next choice. I have some friends who own "Kia Rio" but they are not satisfied with its structure and total performance despite the fact that its engine is slightly more powerful than Hyundai Verna.

As you know, Hyundai sells other cars in Iran too, but they are so expensive that I myself cannot afford.

Good luck.

I think we are talking about two types of engine noise on this car:

1- Noise resulting from metal to metal contact and vibration due to improper engine mount on driver's side. I took the car to one of the Hyundai authorized repair shops and they said the suitable engine mount is not available for replacement. They put a piece of rubber between the engine mount and car's body and the noise was gone! Quickest and cheapest way to solve the problem isn't it?

2- Constant and steady engine noise during acceleration uphills or high speeds on freeways which I don't believe anyone can solve due to the poor design by the manufacturer.

Drive a Daewoo Cielo, having the same engine capacity (in fact, less horse power) with bigger body size and you never feel such bothersome noise.

I'm Newton from Kenya and Hyundai accent is a good car, the engine needs some few attention to reduce the noise. The bumper paint runs out very fast on my car advice me on what paint to use on the bumper. Hyundai is good.
