"Design Flaws Everywhere!!!"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

I just bought this car, Its Warranty is still valid, expiring in a month. I can't say anything about its reliabilty, but sure thing that I am going to say something about the design of the car.

Please see below:

General comments?

Now lets start to the real part;

First off all, trading my BMW for this car was a mistake, I admit it. After driving 5 years of BMW, there seems to be endless flaws in this car.

The soft and comfortable appearing seats starts aches in your back after awhile. Besides, it is very hard to find a comfortable position in these seats I don't know why.

2.7Lt Engine seems fast in slow speeds, but as the speed increases (after 120kph) the power of the engine is insufficient for the desired acceleration.

Front console seems so humdrum, undistinguished, I don't understand? ain't this car is in the same category with TOUAREG? X5? LAND CRUISER? why there is absolute "nothing" in the interior? There is even no section in the sun blockers to put the license of the car. It exists even in my wife's Nissan Micra? there is no single compartment I could put my shades in? nothing for little tiny things? There is only the "nothing fits" glove compartment (even the car's manual doesn't fit there) and this big, ugly, clumsy designed Middle section under arm compartment wasted with CD slots!

This car is not warmed up! no I am not talking about the engine, the cabin! My feet are freezing, this car is like full of holes and wind blowing from everywhere! Back seat passengers can't stand their seats, as they cry out the freezing wind blowing (directly to their bottoms) from the hinges of the seats.

This is a car full of design flaws! The Gas pedal is the worst issue! It is soo touchy, soo soft that your feet is enough to bring it down to the middle by its own weight. No need to push or give a force to push, you often try to keep your foot up not to push the pedal giving you uncomfort and rage. I couldn't stand it, and asked my mechanic to fit a spring under the pedal and he did. It is OK now, but still not comfortable enough for my taste, I bear it sadly as there is nothing to do more?!

I don't even mention continously beeping alarm sounds (when you leave the key on car), inaccurate fuel tank gauge, idiotic road computer, tiny "nothing fits" door pockets, never ever accurate working rain sensitive wipers, old fashioned dashboard..

At least this model is more good looking (exterior) than the newer one.

In short, one shouldn't be surprised American car companies are bankrupting. No doubt They are sooo primitive compared to the German and Japanese cars.

Virtually all your gripes are about features or traits within this car, rather than faults, and also it is too large to match a beemer for performance.

Ah! Unfortunately, not. I wish I was only comparing performances of BMW and G.Cherokee. In fact, Beemer was worse on performance.

And yes, my gripes are about the "faulty" traits of this car, should i complain about them?

I am talking about the interior design issues here! Ergonomy, user friendliness. I just suggest you to look in to one of those TOUAREGs or INFINITY or LAND CRUISERs. Open your eyes, people sell their G. Cherokees after 6 months. (and I was so blinded with the beauty of the exterior of this car, i didnt even notice all this in my test drive.. -silly me)

Everyday I try to find a comfortable position in my seats, everyday! and my back aches just after 30 minutes of trip. Back seat passangers just doesnt warm up. Even a KIA SORENTO doesnt have such design flaws. Shame on you JEEP!

Lets see...

A jeep gc imported into turkey. Usually, I wouldn't trust such a vehicle because it isn't made to the same standards as in North America. Also you seem to have a rare 2.5 liter engine...

Lesson learned? Don't buy american if you live in a foriegn country not on North America.

I tought the same about this legend. I wanted so much to love it. I finally bought one back after after spending time with pretenders. My Pathfinder convinced me with lack of power, my Subaru with shaking frameless windows. Other road test left me disappointed. Nobody wants problems during lease, stay away from jeep. But for other considerations, nothing can replace the authencity feeling of a jeep or let's say of a Harley.

I also have a 2.7 CRD and sorry it is not RARE here in Europe, In fact Diesel engines are more prefered in Europe than cylinder Gasoline engines.

Another correction: 2.7 CRD engine is a Mercedes-Benz engine (since they have merged in past years) used also in Mercedes E-270 CDI. It is a superb engine much reliable and better than the Chrysler ones.

First of all, this 'poster' that wrote all this information seems livid about his life. I have a 2004 Grand Cherokee Limited Edition, fully loaded. I haven't had ANY issues! I love the performance of the car. Any SUV/truck has the pedal issues where it's sensitive when you touch it for gas/go... The interior is awesome! Heated seats for the winter, the manual does fit in the glove box as well as many other things. There is a center console that would definitely be able to fit at least 5 pairs of sunglasses buddy. You can turn off the "chimes" that are bothering you. It's an option for you to choose... Seats are all leather, incredibly comfortable. I am 5'11 and heavy and have had serious back pain and this car actually helps me with that. It is spacious, the seats adjust properly, the windows and air coming in when you open the windows is completely normal... When you close the windows, there is not air everywhere as he suggested. As for a BMW, well I cannot say much because I have never owned one. I've driven one and it's not much to talk about compared to this car. I would say that the only negative thing is that it's an SUV (not green friendly) and costs me about $50 a week in gas for one full tank. But what did you expect in any SUV? I give this car 5 stars.

It's an SUV, but if I'm not mistaken its not in a class with Land Cruisers, Infiniti, or BMWs for that matter. It's a cheaper vehicle so it shouldn't be compared to those.

Sorry for your problems mate, but I have the Overland 2004 version of this vehicle and it's fantastic. It is much better than the ones built in US, because it's made in Europe with high standards and the Mercedes diesel is one of the best you can get.

It will do everything you ask from it, and has much more character than the BMW, Mercedes v.s.

If you are not a motorway freak hitting 200kph all the time, you will have no problems.

P.S. Never buy a LIMITED edition ;)

This rig is not flawless. Rocking motion and unrefined suspension manners compare to the competition. The fact is that it is the most refined SOLID AXLE suspension, praised for its off-road ability. Archaic axle, true! But control by beefy links and fine tuning. The unitized chassis is so stiff that it will offer quiet ride for years. Powertrain is stout, derived from Chrysler V8, Torqueflite trans and Dana axle (use in toyo and Nissan big pick-up). I have driven more comfortable SUV, but without the authenticity feeling. Pretenders will make you believe your are up to date, but in fact they are using AWD tech that dates back to the 1973 AWD Quadra-Trac design: viscous coupling...

Many of your "issues" with the car seem to be ones that you would have found test driving the car...

You complain about the vehicles poor ergonomics. That is helpful information, but I just don't see why you ended up buying the car.

I agree that American cars don't always have the thought that the Germans and Japanese have in their cars, but I wouldn't say a BMW has much interior storage. I don't see many center console storage boxes in them. You also cannot compare a sports car to a truck based SUV, because every time the car is going to be faster and more comfortable.

Well, the gas pedal is a known issue, that is why in the newer models (When Mercedes-Benz gave a magical touch) they fixed the gas pedal. It is way stiffer than before now. That also is an official confirmation of it was faulty before.

Lots of things have changed in the new models. Fixes include your lack of compartments, air conditioning, rain sensitive wipers. They are all German standards now. They also stiffened seats rather than those old über soft seats. I think that gives another score to you.

You couldn't compare jeep with Touareg and others before as jeep was a cheap solution among these. That is way I sold my jeep and bought a Touareg and the difference is above explanation.

Jeep is a no-road solution. Not a comfort giant. And yes there are design issues everywhere until 2006.
