"Fun, But too many problems"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

After owning a C2 1.4 Furio for about 5 or 6 months, the engine management light came on, then it switched off after about a day or two, after having Citroen checking it, they found no problems so they had no option, but just to tell me it was a one off. After another few weeks the same problem happened again, but this time the car had lost about 90% of its power, it was very dangerous as it happened out of the blue. I was pulling out onto a roundabout and having noticed that the car had lost all power, so I decided to put my foot to the floor as there was a car coming fast round the roundabout, at this point the car only had about 5% power and with my foot to the floor the car was only traveling at about walking pace. This really worried me so I sent it back to citroen again and they still found no problms with the diagnostics, so a mechanic decided to test the car over a few days. after around 3 days or so the mechanic still found no problems and so again the car was given back to me. This happened a few more times when one time the engine cut out completely when I was travelling at about 60mph on a dual carriage way. I had to stop the car and turn the engine off and on again, the engine management light was still on, but the car had regained power. Citroen never found a problem with the car, 'so they say' and so I sold the car back to Citroen in order to pay off for the rest of the finance. I don't think ill ever buy a Citroen again.

General comments?

The car was fun to drive and economical, but the problems was just too dangerous for me to keep the car. All Citroen could do was do diagnostic checks and say they could not find any problems, this was really poor customer service as I think they could have done a little bit more into investigating the problem. There were other minor problems too like squeaky breaks which they could not really fix. over all it was a fun car to drive when it worked, but it was dangerous and there was too many little problems and one major problem.

I also have a C2 at the moment and I have experienced the exact same problem as you here. My engine light as yours does comes on and I lose complete power of my car, this has been very dangerous for me too as it happened a few times when I was driving on the motor way or dual carriage way and the all of a suden loss of power almost made a car behind me crash into me. Yes as you said I have taken it back many times, but the light always switches itself off after a day or two so by the time I get it to the dealer they check everything out then they can find any problems at all with it! so they give it back to me... and yes it is a pain and I am considering taking it back and selling it back to them as you did.

However I have another problem now, and that is after a citroen mechanic helped me change the CD head unit in the car for me, after I switch the engine off, around 10 - 15 minutes later the central locking doesn't work! so its either I stick with the boring cd player they have and have my central locking or I change the head unit and have no central locking. If I knew that I would have so much problems before I bought this car I would never have bought this.

My Citroen C2 has now been in the dealership for 13mths, they say they can find no problem with it, the light has been on and the engine has cut out on the motorway. Citroen are very unhelpful, to the point that I am going to take them to court, I am still paying the HP and insurance and have only driven the car about 10 times since purchse date.

Any comments?

I agree with the above, fun to drive, but too many niggly little problems: glitches in the computer system, a sensodrive gearbox which is unfunctional to the point of being dangerous, substandard paintwork and noisy, screeching brakes. I would get rid as soon as possible if it didn't mean losing shed loads of money due to the car depreciating like a brick. Citroen "customer service" is non-existent. They are incredibly unhelpful and apathetic and I have had experience of more than one dealership. I will NEVER buy a Citroen again. If you are thinking about it - don't do it!!!

I own a 54 plate 1.4i Furio (owned from new) and have experienced some of the same niggling problems above - mainly engine management (warning light coming on and going off) - and have been back to the dealer a fair few times. However, overall I've found the after sales service (with the dealer I bought the car from, NOT my local one) very good.

Experienced the same total loss of power pulling away on a busy roundabout which was a pain (would quite like to thump the white van man who tooted at me for getting in his way, despite me having my hazards on!). Typically this happened about two days after my year's Citroen Assist cover ran out, before I'd gotten round to renewing it. After the engine was switched off and on again it seemed OK and managed to get it to my local dealer who weren't really that helpful. Had to leave the car with them over the weekend and I was told that I wasn't entitled to a courtesy car as I had driven to the garage myself and wasn't recovered and they didn't have any available as it was "too short notice". Funny that. Next time I'll remember to notify them in advance when I intend to break down...

Fortunately the garage was in walking distance of home and when I collected the car I was told that the throttle body had broken and had been replaced. This was replaced again a few months later when I took the car in to sort out another problem - when idling (at traffic lights etc) the engine would rev all on its own. This was a persistent problem that was with the car pretty much from day one, but would come and go before I had chance to book it in to get looked at.

The air conditioning also failed (due to a leak, apparently) a little back. Obviously this happened in middle of June, not October...

Other than that it's been very minor things such as rattles etc. The interior trim quality is a bit poor in places, but hasn't failed to meet my expectations - I knew I was buying a cheap and cheerful French car!

This car has put me in a slightly awkward position - based on my experience I would make serious considerations about buying another Citroen. However, my family have owned 6 Citroens over the years and each one has been pretty much faultless so I'm sure I've just been unlucky.

Overall, although I've had a fair few problems with the car, they've mostly been fairly niggly and haven't caused extreme hardship. I would think twice about buying one second hand, outside it's warranty (so far I haven't paid a penny) but this hasn't put me off Citroens, or C2s, for life! As long as you appreciate that the French aren't renowned for their engineering prowess and that you tend to get what you pay for, the C2 is a fun car that offers good value for money.

Coming to the end of my finance agreement now and considering upgrading to a VTS...

My c2 had the same problem with the engine management light coming on and off, The ecu readout always said there was low fuel pressure and when the light originally came on wouldn't rev above 3000rpm.having had fitted a new fuel pump this as solved the problem and the car now runs like a dream again, hope this help someone.

Dear all.

Please help!

My friend was in a serious accident in may last year where his passenger, his friend, was killed! (almost him too and he is now on disability as a result!)

He had his Citroen c2 back to the dealer many times after a steering and cutting out problem - in the end it seems to have cut out / lost steering at the worst possible moment leaving them wrapped around a tree after losing control! (the police report states he was doing no more than 50mph on a 60mph road)

To make matters worse, the police have charged him with death by driving without due care and attention and he is in the court process now - if convicted he could face imprisonment!. it was actually me that has looked for citroen c series problems and saw the many posts about them (his is C2 1.4 with all the same parts used as the C3). I was amazed to see all that's written about this car and it seems to me it should be Citroen in court not my friend!

My friend, Michael, is 31 years old, a father of a beautiful baby girl, has NEVER had a ticket of any kind, Never had an accident before, has driven large Mercedes vans throughout europe without a scratch - as well as cars big and small - he IS a good driver, but what chance has ANY driver got with these "deathtraps"?

If you can take time to provide any factual evidence that can be used in his defense we would be forever in your debt. anything such as reports, emails, letters etc etc.

Many thanks in anticipation of any help given.
