Inlet manifold gasket leaked and was replaced.
Front control arm bushes had to be replaced due to normal wear.
Distributor cap, rotor and ignition leads had to be replaced due to misfire on occasion. Problem solved. Dealer said it was a faulty distributor. Lucky I got a second opinion!
When turning the steering feels like something in the suspension is loose, but no problem can be detected and no abnormal wear on the tyres can be seen.
This is an excellent family sedan and was seriously under rated in it's time mainly due to very poor marketing by Ford in SA.
Performance and fuel economy is above average for a car of this size and weight.
The engine and the engine management system feels very smooth and refined.
I drive a 1997 Ford Telstar Mystique.
This is a truly underrated car, it only kicks out about 98kw from a 2L 4 cylinder engine, but honoustly, the satisfaction of the ride quality, the fuel economy and just throughing it into a turn, is great!
The fuel ends up at about between 10,5 to 12 km per litre, but I have drivin on holiday to get 14.2km per litre with the a/con being used sparingly at about 120 to 130km per hour!
Honoustly, I do NOT want to sell this car, but I am afraid the age is stepping in : (
I own a 1998 tx5 rsi, and had the same probelms as a lot of people have experienced. New water pump, 2 timing belts, starter motor problems, alternator problems, but I just love this car... probably as Alfa people love theirs!
Got 170,000 on the clock and what else can you buy at the current trade price?
