"This car is fast and sharp"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Water Pump At 154,345 Miles.

Radiator At About 160,000 Miles.

Transmission Fluid Leak At About 130,500 Miles.

General comments?

This car is very roomy. Also this car handles like a sports car. The all together body of the car is beautiful. I couldn't let this car go for many more years. Acceleration and braking is also great. To my surprise this long boat was actually not bad on gas at all and that is with the 5.0 This is flat out just the best car in the world and someone would be a fool to let go of one of these.

"This car is fast and sharp"

- Fast? Since when is a 307 fast? I am one of the biggest Olds fans on the net, but that's asking too much to believe.

This is true. The 307 used in the Oldsmobile Eighty Eights that year had lots of power. I know because I have one. I had my cousin follow me on the freeway to do a speed test and when I was pegging the needle, his speedometer was reading 120 and still going like it was nothing. If you keep up on your oil changes, and other maintenance procedures, the car will not only run like a beauty, it will be a total beast.

I'm sure the 307 feels like it moves you around okay. However, if you took it the strip, you would probably change your tune once you came home with a fist full of 17 second time slips.

I say that as someone that owned a 1987 Olds Custom Cruiser wagon as a beater. It had a 200-4R with a 307 and went down the road great for what it was. It did good burnouts and was fun to do donuts with. However, it was not that fast. It just gave the illusion of speed because its suspension was soft and "floaty."

At least it's apparent from the original review that this must be a pretty good car to still be running strong at 160,000+ miles while being beat on moderately. Sounds like a success as far as the car is concerned. It would probably last a careful driver a long time...

There is a chance it might be a little faster than a normal 307 if it was the 307 HO (stop laughing) which has 180 HP instead of 140. I know this was installed in several Oldsmobiles and other GMs of the era, including (I think) the Hurst Olds (don't quote me on that one). If that was the case you might get a 0-60 in maybe 10-11 out of it, I would think, with the extra HP, rather than the usual 14 for a 307.

To the jokers who don't know how to drive, if you do a proper speed test you would know that the idea of the speed test go from 0-50, 50-70/80, and 70/80-up. Its not my fault that you folks cannot move through traffic especially if the road is clear in the middle of the night. Anyway yes the Oldsmobile 307 has great power. The 307 with the 4 barrel q-jet really moves the car. The only other vehicle that I know will move like that with same weight or more and same comfort was the 98 Brougham.

I just bought a beautiful 1983 royale this is the description I sent my Brother! V8 307, 4 barrel I think it is a carb/with injection inside the carb hybrid. Clean all around, but needs paint sunfaded. No dents negligable rust on a few edges. no rust underneath None at all!! original mufflers 2 original tires!!! but cracked and sun dried. original brakes need replacing. Brakes work, but red dash brake lite is on. clean inside, but needs new dash, it has an aftermarket carpet dash cover. drivers seat needs re-done Grand ma must have been a short fat lady! needs electric seat serviced maybe just needs fuses. She gave it to her Son-in-law, but he died 8 mos ago, widow sold it to me because she saw how much I loved the car! I guess my eyes must have popped out and my tongue was hanging down LOL. It ran very slow, but now it is opening up and running much better car sat in garage for ten years then 8 mos in the sun ruined the old paint. The old Blue metallics never did well in Florida sun. I wish I could paint it house of Kolors Cherry bing, but Peter wants it to look like grand national, but I think it is a bigger car. Nick wants to soup it up with carburetion & manifolds, but the carburetor shop said no! I say good I don't want to mess iwth that. I think just taking the cats off and putting better mufflers will help tremendously. It is a big heavy car with a tiny V8. if anyone has any suggestions or more info let me know please. It needs an inside drivers side door handle mechanism.

I would just take that little 307 and drop a rocket 88 in there. I did that with my car, I put on new headers, a new dual exhaust system, pozzi rear end with 3.42's gears. It rides like a monster.
