"Car of the year in Europe for 1991"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

A lot of things. Almost immediately after I got it the thermostat broke down and the radiator fan wouldn’t start and the engine overheated. I also had to change parts on the front suspension because in a bend the steering-wheel shook. I also had to change the starter because it started failing and it would start the engine whenever it wanted. The ventilation switcher broke and it would work only on third stage. The switch for the lights broke and it wouldn’t switch to long lights. The exhaust-pipe broke several times and I replaced part of it, but maybe the best solution is to change the whole exhaust-pipe. The engine started loosing oil and I had to change isolation of the engine head and part in the transmition unit because it was leaking oil too. The wheel arches started to rust and the car started to fill with water when it was raining because there was whole somewhere in the floor and it wouldn’t dry for weeks because the whole carpet would get wet. The window mechanism broke and it didn’t move at all. The gear-lever disintegrated and had to be replaced.

General comments?

Small nimble car and the 1.4l petrol engine pulls quite well. Mine was almost 190000km and it didn’t burn any oil at all and after some repairs it didn’t also lose any. The brakes are rubbish. I changed everything. The disks the brakes, but didn’t get any result at all. It is best too look well ahead and anticipate possible problems. Small outside, but quite spacious on the inside. It has very good visibility and it is very easy to park. If you are easy on the throttle it is quite economical (about 7L per 100km) but if you step on it the things change (more than 10L per 100km). It always started no matter how cold it was. The heating is good only in the summer. It just needs ages to actually start to blow warm air out of the vents, but when it does it is good enough. The ride is quite harsh and everything inside rattles as if it is going to fall apart when you are on a bad road. It is not the most reliable and comfortable car, but it is easy and fun to drive and the parts are cheap. After all it is 15 years old and for its price it is a quite good way to move around.

"Immediately after I got the car..." You got the car at 160000 km so you cannot know when the problem started...
