1993 Toyota Levin GT Apex from Australia and New Zealand - Comments

"Absolutely amazing to drive and really cool first car."

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Air conditioning needed re-gassing at 125000Km.

Both front seat-belts stopped retracting, cheap fix.

General comments?

The car is very quick.

Very Very good on the fuel 8.5L per 100 in town and 6L per 100 on the highway.

Awesome on the corners due to low hight.

Cabin can be a little small for some taller people especially the rear seats.

Doors still closes with a nice clonk even though the car is 13 years old.

I love Toyota and think that I am now hooked for life.

Hi there, I own a 94' model 20v. I do agree with your comments. However, I wish that the car was rear wheel drive!!. I live in the UK and was wondering if there were any places that stocked parts for this model?

Unfortunately, since this particular car was never meant to be exported overseas, it has a very limited source of tuning and aftermarket parts.

These two offer pretty much all of one's requirements to get one up to a fairly respectable HP.

Of course one will have to pay a premium on shipping, although parts are quite cheap with regards to the EDM pricing.

I bought a 1995 gt apex levin.. car has good power after 3000rpm and really does pull quite hard in 3rd and 4th gear..

Great fuel economy.. on a full tank of premium I did roughly 600km (city and highway driving).

Also, don't know if it's meant to be normal, but I haven't had the

guts to redline it yet (8000rpm).. the car sounds like it's going hard at 5000rpm...

Only problem I have so far is visibility from the driver's seat. the A pillar restricts vision to the right..

I've had my Levin GT Apex 20v now for about a month and am quite satisfied with every feature, things I have noticed (from top of my head) are as follows:

Pro's:

1. Kool looking car and quite rare here in Brisbane AUS (9/10 first Q asked is "Wat is it!?").

2. Quite fast wen you rev it high! Although to get the power going you must approach redline in 1st so dat 2nd pulls and continues the acc (to which is no prob to chirpie (skid) in the 1-2 gear change!), 2nd gear doesn't need as much reving to get power out of 3rd gear.

3. Gears are excellent! approx: (1st-60Km/h, 2nd-100Km/h, 3rd-150ish, 4th n 5th yet to try >.<!)

4. Sturdy car, gotta turn sharp at high speed before you hear tyres losing traction & even then it sticks to the road!

5. Had timing belt changed and major service etc @ 75000K's as being import wasn't sure how close to 100K's it has really gone :S Could've gone another 5k - 10k before service, but gives indication of wat to expect wen buying one!

Con's:

1. I also have trouble focusing to my front right especially wen entering a roundabout because the piller is right in the way!

2. Power doesn't kick in early (but that's bcuz it's a high rev engine).

3. There are random sounds from the rear (parcel shelf?, windscreen?) wen you drive silently on uneven road.

4. I have problems with speed bumps when car has 2 - 4 occupants where it sumtimes scrapes (this is probly the exhaust piping cuz they r quite low even though car is stock height!)

5. Fuel economy for me is quite poor? a lot of people say they get excellent economy up to 600KM per tank, but I have my fuel light come on at 380 and by 430ish the fuel needle is under the E mark? This is on 98octane (tank atm is on 100 octane + 5% ethanol, waiting to see Distance, but looks the same), I feel economy I poor and I wouldn't say dat I have been driving the car hard to result in the low mileage!

Overall the car is leet! The Pros are more than enough to counterbalance the Cons & I will be keeping this car for years to come! This is just some things I can think of worth mentioning to potential owners of these quite impressive vehicles (wolf in sheep's clothing!!!).
