1989 Chevrolet Cavalier RS from North America - Comments

99% of the problems we had with the car were accident induced. When the car had about 100,000 miles we got in a near head on collision and we opted to keep the original motor because of money shortages. We regreted that because we never could get it back to perfect operating condition.

Great car. We went everywhere in it and it survived my driving so obviously it's almost invincible.

Could carry five people, handled well, looked cool, accelerated decently (faster than every other economy car) and lasted a very long time. If you're short on money and want an awesome car, get a Cavalier.

I think most of these Cavalier reviews are a little suspect. How does the car actually handle?

I own a Z24, and it handles like a dream. I have wrecked it twice, and I am having engine problems from over-revving (a blown lifter). I have beat HELL out of this car and it still refuses to quit. This guy is right, these cars are nearly invincible.

These 89 Cavaliers do handle well. Good power, Good braking, and just about perfect weight distribution.

Were can I get a motor for one? I am racing one and it is not going fast enough. Is there a computer chip for one?

It took 65mph into a telephone pole to kill my 1989 RS!

Body rot the size of Texas, crippled rear end from getting hit twice back there, and beatings from 3 teenagers? None of these could stop this thing! It took a telephone pole at 65mph to stop it (and I snapped the pole all the way through at the base!). This is the kind of car I would want my kid to have for his/her first car. Hopefully, however, no kid of mine will ever do the stupid things I did with that car. It was one amazing piece of machinery.

I have a 1989 4 door am meticulous with maintenance 100 miles a day highway driving 35 mpg, cahang oil a lot, also have a low mileage Z24,stays in garage does not get wet, excellent cars!

I have just purchased the 89 Cavalier Z24 for my Granddaughter. It was used as a local car dealer promotion for $300 and I took them up on the offer. My Granddaughter is in Auto Mechanics class in high school and this car will be the mascot for the young mechanics taking classes at the school. After it is rebuilt, it will be my Granddaughter's first car. It has no body damage, the motor runs well and is not burning oil, and has no signs of leaks in and around the motor, yet it has 250,000 miles on the original motor. I drove it home yesterday and it still handles well, tight in the curve and no floating. All electronic parts are still functioning also.

This is the perfect little car to restore and gift to a grandchild that was born the same year the car was built!
