My power steering pump just began to leak.
ABS Light never shuts off.
I just bought a 1993 Cadillac Sedan De Ville. It's white with blue leather interior. I'm 16 and this is my first car. I have always dreamed of driving a caddy. They have and awesome ride, great power, and great reliability. There are two minor problems that really bother me. One is this dang ABS light. I had a brake shop look it over and do a diagnostics test on it and they said my breaks were new and they couldn't find a problem. The second one is the wind noise you get in the driver and passenger side doors up front. When I hit interstate speed of 65-70 miles per hour It's pretty loud. Can any one help me with these problems.
Try the weather stripping around the doors.
The place that I bought it from just re-did the weather stripping, but I heard that the door shade things you can put on the edge of the windows might help.
Hi I am also 16 and my ABS light won't go off either. The Cadillac dealership told me to buy a new master head cylinder and switch.
I bought a parts manual and a dealer book manual and they don't really say anything about it. I've looked on ebay for a device to shut it off, but I haven't found one yet and the only way I can think to get rid of the annoying light is to just take the bulb out.
I also bought a parts manual and a Haynes manual and both don't say anything about how to shut it off. I agree about just taking the bulb out.
Wat up I'm 16 to I also have a 93 cadillac deville I bought it wen I was 15 hey you should put some dayton's rims.
My Caddy is going to be sittin on some 18" SSC chrome rims pretty soon wrapped in BF Goodrich Traction T/A's performance and the ride.
I have a 1993 Cadillac Deville. My ABS light was on and my mechanic found a front wheel bearing had a small amount of play in it. Once I had it changed I never seen the ABS light on again. You can try that and see what happens.
To the original poster of this review, you're not alone in your ABS warning light situation. This has been notorious not only on Cadillacs but in other GM makes as well. My dad owned an '00 GMC Sonoma and when he let me borrow it to pick up something too big to in my car, I noticed its ABS light was on all the time. He said it'd cost about $500, maybe even more, to get it fixed, so he passed. He verified that it worked fine and that the light was coming on for no reason (it worked fine when I drove it myself).
I've had the same problem on my '98 Malibu. Sometimes my light would come on and every time it does, I reset my parking brake once I come to a stop somewhere. The light doesn't come back on, at least not right away. I also learned having its wiring wet from going over puddles may be to blame. If you drive over wet spots then that may be why.
From what I've read, ABS is more of an extra feature added to ensure the brakes really work, but the brakes alone work fine. Seeing ABS come on may mean it's malfunctioning, but at least you can still stop the vehicle. Also, do make sure it's serviced regularly.
Given this tip, trying to get it fixed might drive you crazy. I had idiot lights coming on all the time in my last car (an early '90s GM model) and tried to get it fixed, but to no avail, so I just lived with it.
This goes to the ABS problem. A lot of Deville owners just take the fuse out for the ABS and call it a day. As another guy said on here, your brakes will still work fine, you just will not have ABS brakes, but drivers did live without them for how long before it came out.
