Lets just start off with that wen I got this car, it had a lot of things wrong with it already, so I cannot say how the car was cared for and treated, but heres a list of things that were wrong with it wen I got it.
-Heater and air conditioner motor was goin on and off wen I try to keep it running
-need to replace bolt joints
-transmission slamming into gear
-lights on the dash board are dimmer then usual
-drivers seat is getting loose
-rear hight mount and left brake lights not working, (even with new bulbs)
-left turn signal not working (i have to hold it manually to make it flicker)
-rusted exhaust
-alternator (generator) is not working very good (the lights inside and out of the car are flickering, also wen I apply slight gas pressure the lights dim)
-the steering wheel feels the road bumps very hard.
-driver door lock is rusty and working poorly (i have to open the car from the passengers side and climb inside to open the drivers door from the inside.)
-rear brakes are bad, even with new pads, the rear wheels don't lock on ice or snow during hard braking. (no ABS) (that's good because the car dosen't spin out of control wen I trying to stop on ice :)
I can dig up a lot of dirt on this car, but major has gone wrong with the car, except the drivers side lock.
I love the car, simply because it has that distinct American feel,
the engine grumbles, the seating position, and the car has got enough power to drive hard,
despite only 130bhp, but 180Ft-Lbs Torque
the car is fast of the line, to about 80km/h, then after that it isn't very fast,
but you can achieve 180km/h with some distance.
The car absorbs bumps well and corners with confidence, stops in time, even without ABS.
Its certainly comfortable to sit in even for me, 6,5 (198cm)
My model is 1990, but id by another one for sure, probley the 1997 with 165bhp and CD player
I also like how easly the car starts up after being parked out side during -18c temperatures for the whole night.
I can't wait to get another one, I just wish Oldsmobile stil was around.
In 2002 I bought a 1990 Olds Cutlass Ciera for $700 with 184,000 miles on it. Great car. I drove it a year and a half with no problems.
But one day while I was driving it down the highway the temp light came on. Fearing it was overheating, I pulled over and turned the engine off.
I was surprised when I raised the hood to find the engine was cool!
So when I tried to start it, it would not start. But it would turn over. And it never would start again. I ended up selling it cheap with 200,446 miles on it.
Should have kept it and had a mechanic to fix it.
I do know it would not start because for some reason it was not "getting spark."
These are great cars.
