"Terrible car"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Check engine light stayed on. Took it three times before they would fix it. New brakes and rotors at 30000.Bought car with 23000 miles. We had to pay for 30000 mile maintance.$400.Mirror rattles, power cuts out going down road. Ill be going 70mph when car slows to 30 or 40 mph. Bad about this on accelaration. Biggest problem with extened warranty. Kia says the lady that did our warranty didn't file it so we have no warranty. We paid $1100 for it. Still calling every day about this. Their service departments suck!!

General comments?

I would never buy another KIA!Nothing but problems. KIA acts like its your fault their cars are crap. Always a hassle at dealership.

30K maintenance as called out in the owners manual is the responsibility of the "owner" pay for. Also, the 10 year 100K warranty is for the "original" owner. Subsequent owners knock it down to 6 years 60K. People need to research on their own when buying used.

2002 Kia Sportage.

At first I thought the 2002 Kia Sportage was the most bang for your buck. I was wrong! My wife and I purchased the Sportage used, for 18,000 cdn after 6 months we had problems with the electrical, ie windows, power locks, interior lights, as well as cooling systems problems. The rad leaked all of the prestone out and the moter over heated. I topped it up and took it in to the dealer and they told me nothing was wrong with it. The rad continued to leak, and I continued to fill it up, untill the warranty expired and then the dealer told me it need a new rad, fan and clutch assembly. $1,100.00. We could smell somthing burning (electricaly), and the fuse kept blowing for the wipers. (Fuses are 8 dollars each) dealer finally fixed the problem. Power window fuse kept blowing, $36 for fuses later the dealer fixed the problem. Interior lights blew out, but the dealer fixed the problem with a $25 light bulb! (local auto retail sells 2 for 5 bucks). Returned $25 light to the Kia service desk, thanks, but no thanks!!!dash lights perioticaly go out, dealer couldn't find the problem. I too was shocked to find out about the little tune-up that is required, (fluid change, timing belt, etc.) to the tune of $995.00 cdn GULP!!! Gotta get it though or the warranty is void.4X4 does not work and for the 2nd year in a row I need to replace the vacume lines to the front hubs ($20 each) 2nd year in a row!!!. The latch for the rear hatch does not always work, thus I must throw the groceries over the back seat. (wifey not impressed). There is a rubber hose for the fuel just before the intake manifold, the dealer tells me that they do break, and must be replace. I drive to the Kia dealership 60 km not knowing that Gas is pouring over the engine compartment. BIG SAFETY HAZZARD KIA. This could cause a serious health problem do to being burned to death while you try to get pulled off the highway to get out of the Sportage. Own up and fix this problem before some family gets hurt. More fuel problems, the pump assembly leaks on the return line on the tank. NOT GOOD!!. the dealer fixed it under warranty no charge. In the winter we couldn't fill the tank with gas, it would just all shoot back out at us, the Dealer advised me to change the filter, the warranty doesn't cover this. Cost of one vent filter $79 cdn dealer will intstall for 40 bucks. We have owned this Sportage now for two years and there is no warranty left. The Sportage needs $3,000.00 worth of work done to it, but the dealer will only give us $3,600.00 on a trade in. It's our only vehicle, so we fix it, we have no alternative.

I will recomend that you do not by a Kia Sportage, you will be disapointed and poor.

Kia needs to fix the fuel leak problem if nothing else. Someone could get really badly hurt driving one of these things. If you already own one, I feel for you, and if your Kia Sportage has never had a problem, then you certainly got the most bank for your buck.We spent $24,000.00 for two years of service. and now it's worth $3,000 bucks. Not good.!! If you have had the same problems, I would like to hear from you. petersherrie@rogers.com

Thanks.

I do not recommend this car.

I have owned several manual trans cars over the past 30 years. The clutches have always lasted longer than stated in manual. I have never encountered the clutch not working when the car is in a traffic jam, hot day scene. This is the first!!! It is very scary to have the clutch sink to the floor like a piece of paper. All the door electronic problems stated by others, are mine also. I have lost the 4x4 on demand and never drove off road. I have done regular maintenance as required, but I will never buy another KIA. It is sitting at the dealer service repair and I want to report on the response in a few days.
