"nice car but let down by the poor fuel economy"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Extremely reliably.

General comments?

The car is very nice.handles well

an exellcelant car with poor fuel economy.which is its only down fall

why is it that i have to drive like a old granny to even achieve 40mpg

and i normally only get 35mpg ,the old car i traded in gave me 50mpg all the time.yet this is a better car all round.

so i will keep a l;ittle longer then i will trade it in for the skoda 1.9td

My 130 TDCi tends to give poor fuel economy if incorrectly serviced. This may not be your problem, but worth considering. Mine was service at a ford dealership and I had to take it back. Also I've notice that in the winter months it tends to return less mpg. Hope this is of some use.

Heating your car before driving saves fuel. especially in cold weather.

My father has the same problem. TDCi goes well, but gives hopeless economy. Ford have tested it and say it is normal. While it was in for a week with the dealer he borrowed my 2.0i petrol Primera and said he saved himself a tenner in fuel over the week.

I have had Mondeo estates for the past 15 years or so. Ihad a diesel for 10 years that did 198,000 miles without any major faults and is still on the road and then a 2.0 petrol which I didn't really like, too many nigley faults and chewed through rear tyres. The latest 2005 130 TDC is excellent and I get 50 mpg on general motoring. I know some people turn up there noses because it's a Ford, but for common sense you can't go wrong.

My wife (who is 28 years) & myself have just purchased (last week) a turbo Diesel common rail injection 2.0.litre Zetec 2005 model Mondeo; we absolutely love it! The only fault is the clutch pedal; it is a little fierce. A little adjustment & all will be well; it is a beautiful drive; easy to handle even for the wife. Great economy; 40-50m.p.g. honestly! at about an average of 50-60 m.p.h.

The interior is total class! Then it has assisted driver computer cruise control; reverse sensors, for parking + more extras; ours is finished in a light metallic gold; we cannot hear the engine; quiet. As for petrol, we have only done 21,000 but this Mondeo is our ultimate dream! We give 10 out of 10 all around; Stagg 'n' Todd.
