1999 Volvo S80 2.9L from North America - Comments

"There are definitely better cars out there"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Plastic interior pieces have broken, cracked or come out of place.

Ignition/starter failure.

General comments?

This car has been just OK.

The suspension is far too rough and older volvos are much better in this regard.

The brakes are super sensitive and new drivers must get used to them at low speeds; break in period results in choppy ride.

Steering feel can only be described as POOR. provides no road feel, and is just very mechanized feeling.

Horrible visibility when parking, going in reverse, or general driving. the seats are way too bulky with huge headrests that tend to get in the way. also the rear pillars are far too wide and obstruct vision.

You know these cars are just overpriced rubbish and don't make sense in North America.

Just buy a nice Mercury Grand Marquis, Ford Crown Victoria or, better still, a nice Lincoln Town Car, and forget the Volvo.

Good Advice from the above commenter, but don't you think most of your criticisms of the car should have been evident during a long test drive?

NEVER buy a car without a long test drive.

Even go as far as to keep one for the whole week-end if you can.

Most good dealers will let you do this if you can convince them you are serious about buying the car, and not just another tire-kicker.
