"You get what you pay for. Not a lot!!!"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Transmission problems at 80,000, costing $1750 to fix.

Engine runs rich causing muffler problems every 4-6 months.

Poor acceleration and Power.

Horrible Gas milieage. It is projected to get 25 city (Only getting 18-19) and 20 city (only getting 13-15).

Extremely bumpy ride.

General comments?

Other than problems listed above the car has been reliable, but expected a lot more from a Ford (Built Ford Tough, doesn't say much for what a Tough means to Ford). although, It is a nice style small truck and I am not ashamed of this ride.

Did you beat the truck? That might explain the tranny problem, or maybe you forgot to change the fluid in the auto tranny.

As for your engine troubles, they could all probably be solved by one stupid sensor or something screwy in the computer.

The auto trannies in these trucks (and Explorers) are trash. They're based on a design from the Aerostar van.

To the second commenter:

They are not based off one vehicle's tranny. Each transmission is made 4 spd or 5 spd for a certain group of vehicles. Therefore the same tranny may be put in many different vehicles.

For instance, T5 trannys are in lots of older ford cars. C6 HD trannys are in many older ford trucks, vans, and suvs. As is the E4OD used on econolines and many trucks.

But really, people need to do maintainance, that's the biggest shortcoming of many auto trannys, people don't know how to take car of them.

I bought my Ranger Edge in october of 2006. and I had one problem and that was a tranny. The dealership was kind to pay for 1/2 considering I had only had it for 27 days and it pooped out. Other than that I can't complain with the reliability. I have a child so its not really comfortable back there for her not sure if it would be safe to if we were ever in an accident. Gas mileage is a big thing. 13 is bad I don't think I would expect better with the big tires and 4 x4. The reason for the purchase I was working on a farm so the 4 wheel came in handy I quit that job and don't need that anymore over all I would give this little truck a big clap.
