"A good, cheap, safe, comfortable vehicle"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Clockspring assembly in steering wheel died - meaning horn and cruise control stopped working. Had to take to auto electrician to fix.

Standard falcon problem of recirc door not operating - fixed by screwing shut :)

Globe in dashboard clock blew. $6 to replace. Globe in odometer blew. $6 to replace. Easy home jobs.

General comments?

I bought this car when I turned 17 and left school. Since then I have put 40000km on it, it's done some hard work, but I've also kept it thoroughly maintained. It has been perfect throughout my ownership.

Very cheap to run on highway driving, chews more fuel and brakes when driven hard in the city, due to being heavy car. On average returns better fuel economy than my 1992 5spd liberty and my mother's 2005 2.4L auto camry. About 600km per tank.

Due to being a large car, it is very comfortable and safe.

Parts are very cheap and widely available.

Maintain this vehicle's cooling system correctly, and you will avoid the notorious head gasket problems.

--UPDATE from original author of review--

I have since discovered that the clockspring assembly was not to blame for the vehicle's electrical problems (horn, cruise control not working) but instead a loose wire under the dashboard. Interesting that the mechanic apparantly "extensively checked" the vehicle, and reccommended an auto electrician. Just goes to show you have to sometimes get in yourself and take care of matters...
