2005 Suzuki Ignis 4 grip from UK and Ireland - Comments

"Excellent value 4x4 but not a good choice for high mileages"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Noisy wiper blades.

General comments?

Excellent road holding and grip - can corner quickly, once you get used to the amount of roll.

Good for narrow country lanes and poor surfaces, but no advantage for long distances on A roads and motorways.

Fuel consumption disappointing even on long journeys, but is the price you pay for 4x4.

Even with a light right foot the best is high 30's. Would have been better with a diesel engine.

Very effective brakes - stops car very quickly even without using ABS.

Tends to need a lot of gear changing on hills and much use of vvt boost.

Good high driving positon and comfortable seats.

Poor headlights, especially dipped beam - too low even when adjusted.

I too have a 2005/55 Ignis 4Grip and agree entirely with your comments. I get 25-30 mpg at best and love the grip, hate the power band and gear ratios. If you use Optimax/Ultimate 99RON fuel and thrash the hell out of it, it goes well on the twisties, but you get 20mpg.

Hopeless stereo speakers. Uncomfortable seats. Stupid design faults eg: boot light ABOVE back shelf, sun visors too long, irritating fuel flap, distracting fuel economy display, etc, etc. Headlights improve with adjustment and +50% bulbs (£15).

Excellent dealers, cannot be faulted in any way, but cannot do any more to improve it, cannot get on with it at all, so just part exed it.

Annoyingly they reduced the price by £2000 just after I bought it to £7995 OTR NEW, so I have made a crippling loss. I wish I had never bought it. Still, if you are needing a cheap 4x4 - it's better than a Panda 4x4 or Terios...

Please read report titled "surprisingly horrendous, unfortunately" as this is another full description of this car. I also agree with your comments, and forgot to mention the boot light/shelf and poor headlights in my report. How on earth did you manage high 30s mpg?! Were you being towed?

It would have been more bearable with the DDIS engine and a better gearbox. I would have managed another month with it...!

Re: previous comment, better than Panda 4x4 or Terios; I now withdraw this having spent more time with the Ignis 4Grip. Anything else would be better!
