At 14,475 there should not be anything that goes wrong regardless of age, but like so may other 2000-2001 Maxima owners, I am now a victim of bad ignition coils. I did extensive research on this issue and even signed a couple on-line petitions regarding it.
I then called 3 Nissan dealers. Not one of them would even acknowledge that an issue existed. I then called Nissan consumer affairs at 1-800 NISSAN1. They created a case number and politely told me to take it to a Nissan dealer as my independent shop did not understand Nissan vehicles.
My independent shop and several others I called ALL acknowledged this Maxima issue and all had done several repairs. It makes you wonder how a Nissan dealer could not at least acknowledge the issue, unless there was something to hide.
I know Nissan boasts the Maxima as their flagship, and Nissan consumer affairs even stated such. I bet that is why they do not acknowledge this issue. They simply do not want to tarnish the reputation of their flagship.
Like the rest of you, I am now reaching deep in to my pockets to pay for a repair for a poorly designed coil or a poorly designed application of the coil.
STEP UP TO THE PLATE NISSAN.
Gas mileage is good for amount of power.
It is quick and handles well.
The ride is OK for a sports type suspension.
The turning radius is extremely poor.

I am a nissan technician and trust me I am very familiar with this concern. it really surprises me that nissan still has not recalled the coils nissan by far has more recalls for the smallest things that I have ever seen in any other car line. but there quality is still way above most models aside from the bad coils they really don't have any other problems.
