2002 Hyundai accent in a word...garbage.
Bought this car for my daughter's commute to school. Now she is looking at her first year of law school and will probably have to buy a new car she cannot afford. She did ALL of the required maintenance and took very good care of the car. All of a sudden the trans just dies. Our old '92 Ford Ranger went to 180k miles. An old Olds Ciera to 145k before it got hit. Brand new Hyundai accent? Only just under 100k?? Looks great, but doesn't run! Looks like we're not the only ones with this problem. Proves the old adage... you get what you pay for! Unfortunately, seems like a lot of people who couldn't afford better are the ones taking a beating. Seriously, can anyone say CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT? How do you start one anyway?
If you or anyone were denied warranty on your failed hyundai transmission, please email me at dap1255@yahoo.com. I'm no lawyer, but I'd like to get some people together. I own one of these things. My tranny failed. AAMco replaced it with another one, and they were kind enough to let me keep the old one. they Only charged $350 labor.
I intend to disassemble the old one and take pictures.
These cars do have a serious problem with their transmission. I have a 2001 Accent with only 45,000 miles on it. The transmission completely went out in the middle of a road trip with my 2 small children. Mind you I am 6 months pregnant as well. I tried to get into 5 area dealerships, and not a single one of them could schedule me in. I did have a the transmission worked on at 35,000 miles, as well as the the front right axle. I was experiencing grinding noises when I would make a right turn. Less than 10,000 miles later, the sound was back, and the Transmission failed. I bought it so I could save on gas, but could never seem to get more than 200-250 miles per tank. Of course, the dealership did not have an explanation for this. I thought they were supposed to get in the area of 35-40 mpg highway. That was never accomplished. I really wish I would have done my homework, but I got the car at a very affordable price... well in the long run, not that affordable. I have chosen not to fix the tranny, too expensive, and no longer worth the value of the car, I'm a year outside of warranty. Chalk this one up to experience.
