The list is endless and is common on ALL Vectras according to Vauxhall!!:
1- The steering knuckle joint goes every 3 months.
2- The aircon is smelly.
3- The engine management cuts out the engine ( due to a dirty sensor) - been replaced/cleaned 3 times in a year.
4- Idle speed varies dramatically and often stalls.
5- The headlights are very dim.
etc. etc.
The car looks good, is comfortable and goes well -when it is running right.
BUT- it is so full of niggles and complaints that I doubt if I will ever buy Vauxhall again.
I have spoken to many Vectra owners on the web and via dealers, and they all have the same problems as me.
Also, the car is boring - handling and performance are acceptable, but you are left wanting more. I guess I should have bought the sportier versions - but they all have engine management problems too.
I am going to try Volkswagen next :)
That's right, I've been had a DTI, S reg for only a month and problems started one day one:
- Very irritating noise from the dashboard left hand side, asked to pay £500 to rectify.
- Air con is smelly.
- Driver's seat was squeaking, paid £220 to rectify.
- Clock display displays broken digits, payed £170 to fix.
- Every time I turn the steering wheel, it cracks like a wallnut.
Apart from the above problems, I think that the new DTi engines are responsive and economical. Appearance, well, looks good, but much to be desired. Shouldn't cost much to service but you start to hate the car once you hear those irritant rattles and squeaks inside the car.
Thanks carsurvey, this website unlike others gives you an excellent idea on what to choose when it comes to a proper/decent car.
Had gearbox problems 2/3 weeks after warranty ran out cost of repairs £1800 I will not be buying from vauxhall again.Vectra`s are Vauxhalls worst car...
I Disagree, with the reviewer and with the author of the other two comments.
I own for, eighteen months a 1997 Vectra SRi Hatch 2.5 V6 24V and I must say that even in this short, period, this car is one of the best vehicles I have ever owned.
I think the reviewer and the others reviewers, that had problems with their Vectras, got unlucky to get bad ones.
I just love Vectra and find this car quite fun to drive.
Despite of it's bad reputation...

I'm not surprised the car's rubbish. You bought an LS. This is the Base version without any intention to be a sporty performer. Get a real SRi or GSi, and then try complaining. The smile on your face will be so wide you won't be able to talk!
